For an athletic QB, Trubisky was very disciplined in terms of looking for receivers rather than just taking off and running. When he did choose to run he showed good speed. He made some good throws and some bad throws which is probably what we should have expected in his debut. His stats didn't look as good in the second half but part of that has to be the Vikings adjusting at half time. Overall I'm encouraged by what I saw.

I was wrong in thinking that Trubisky would make the talent around him better. The OL would be better not blocking for a statue. The WRs would A) get open more because of Trubisky's lateral movement in and out of the pocket or B) wouldn't have to get open as much because Trubisky's ability to throw accurately in tight windows. The run game would be more productive as teams couldn't play 9-man boxes against Howard and Cohen. The playcalling would open up with a more talented QB and we would really see what Loggains can do as an OC.

I don't know if I overestimated Trubisky or underestimated the pure trash associated with this team. I won't go as far to say that Trubisky will be "ruined" or anything like that. But I think I may have been a little premature in wanting him on the field with this mess, coached by these coaches.

yep yep yep.

I think we underestimated just how bad this entire offense is, and kind of feel bad for things I said about Glennon, but not really because he actually is terrible.

This offense is trash and the rest of the year is about hoping Mitch doesn't get hurt and that Pace actually has an idea for who the next coach will be. Also, in just 2-4 more drafts he might be able to field a decent team.

To be clear, I'm perfectly fine with how Trubisky played last night. I don't give him much of the blame for last night.

- Holding call on 1st drive, took away a big pass play and a trip inside the 10 turned into a punt.

- Delay of game because Fox couldn't decide whether to punt or not, despite having a full timeout to talk about it. From 4th and 2 where a conversion likely means 3 points in the future, instead a punt.

- Howard TD called back, went from 7 points to a punt because of penalties.

- OPI on McBride was a pretty shitty call, but even if it's not called, he dropped the damn ball.

- Averaged over 9 yards to go on 3rd down, with 7 of 13 of them over 10 yards.

These things in particular are par for the course with the Bears the past couple years. On the few times they do seem to put a drive together, they usually get a holding call to stall it and then follow it up with some 5 yard penalty to take them out of FG range.

i agree that those things sucked but let's wait and see what they look like against lesser defenses where they've had more time together and mitch has had more time before you go back on all that stuff in the first paragraph

Yep. 100% of Fox. When you have a severe lack of talent vs. every team you face you can't make stupid mistakes like that. So many points left on the board. Obviously 7 from the Howard TD. At least 3 on the 1st drive. Granted, those 10 points would have meant no fake punt TD, but also would have meant a defense pinning their ears back with a double digit lead early against first an injured, then a mediocre QB.

I'm kinda curious as to how we reconcile the Bears being such absitely devoid of talent relative to every team they play while having such a terrible coach, and them being in games to the end.

I mean, it's obvious Fox is dumb, but the players have talent or they wouldn't be in the position they were in yesterday. So can we end this narrative about the Bears having no talent? They need a WR or two.

They have talent at QB, both lines, and RB, but they have no talented players whose primary skill is catching the ball, and extremely limited talent among the group of people whose job it is to prevent the other team from catching the ball.

The Bears are set up great for the off season at least. Haven't bothered looking at the FA class next year, but the Bears can have 70 mill of cap space, if they need it. Granted, they need to quit striking out on the big names.

I think the receiver group is going to make things too difficult to get a true read on Trubisky, but at least he's already shown the workable tools. How he develops moving forward is an unknown, but at least he's got the talent to dream on.

To me, you've got to get him a big FA addition WR, a 2nd solid complimentary guy, and draft a guy inside the first 3 rounds. Hell, maybe spend a 3rd day pick as well. Although, I guess Meredith is back next year. If we bring back anyone else out of this group, I guess it'd be Wright. He's the only one I think that can be remotely productive.

And there's no reason for Shaheen to be on the bench, as far as I'm concerned.

I have to imagine the reason is he's not any good. This far along into a season with no offensive weapons, if he could play he would be playing.

Then again, i don’t know why all the other crappy skill players would block another crappy skill player from playing

If you want to drag the game down to a miserable clock-chewing slog where you keep it close and lose, you can about half the time. Then you'll go 3-5 in those games and 1-7 in your blowouts and finish 4-12.

There's a few bright spots, sure. Everyone likes Trubisky more every time they see him. There are parts of the roster that aren't tire-fires. Interior OL, most of the front 7 on defense. I don't hate the corners. But even some of that stuff is more "ok" than "good." We want to think of the defense as good, but the Bears are tied for next-to-last in takeaways on defense and have zero interceptions, and you just can't win in the NFL like that.

I think if you got Trubisky one really kick-ass receiver and one good one, plus a year's experience, that'd probably be enough to make for a decent team in 2018. But they're way more than one offseason away from being really good. But I feel moderately confident that they have the QB situation solved for awhile, which is really helpful.

Calvin Ridley. he is the answer to all of our prayers.

I disagree that they are that far away. They are good up front on both sides, but they need to keep acquiring talent there. They appear to be set at safety, but may need to address the CB position long-term.

if they have the QB, then all they need is a guy or two that can get open. they can get that in the draft, and as I said, I prefer Ridley and think he's going to be a star. they can throw some money at Jarvis Landry or maybe even Alshon. then they are a legit playoff contender.

Anyways, it bvarely if the team is good or not independent of Trubisky, it just matters if he is good.

Should they be happy with their safeties? They're part of the pickless secondary and give up an awful lot of long touchdowns.

Pff loves Amos and Jackson is a ballhawk, apparently.

WR class is pretty decent IMO. Alshon, Pryor, Watkins, Davante Adams, Allen Robinson, Landry, Moncrief, amongst others

yeah barring a calvin johnson like prospect i think i'd rather sign a WR than draft one high. they seem to usually take a bit to develop.

If you mean a year or two, then id agree. But most top wr’s are hitting their stride in yr 2. Considering we are trending towards a top-5 pick, if one is appropriate for the draft slot, i think you draft him

i'll always be about BPA, so if it actually happened to be a WR, fine, but id rather someone who can be more impactful next season. it's time to do the cubs 2014-15 type offseason with this team. Let's go.
