i guess scherzer was supposed to throw a bullpen today but isn't anymore

i'm not exactly sure on that...heard it in passing.

I'm sure they won't require him to throw a full sim game or mound session today. He can probably do throwing off the mound on Friday and be fine for game 3. But this is all very Dusty in terms of the progression of the injury severity.

MLB Network just did a live look in, in Wrigley and Jake was throwing on flat ground in RF just short of the warning track to a catcher so that’s good to see. He was doing a windup and stretch while throwing too, not just catch.

Yep, but that makes Game 3 more likely, apparently:

more likely than 1 or 2, sure

also would seem to make it more likely (than game 1 or 2) that he doesn't pitch at all

I infiltrated your board. Some Nats fans were hoping that Max would go in game 3 before the injury.

Scherzer is 10-2 with a 1.86 ERA and WHIP of 0.81 on the road vs. 6-4 with a 3.25 ERA and WHIP of 1.00 at home

But since Strasburg has been the best pitcher in baseball over the past 6 weeks, it was an easy decision to slot him in game 1.

The real benefit of having Scherzer pitch game 2 is that then both Strasburg and Max available for a potential game 5. But I am ok either way.

Should be a good series.

I saw that about the H/R splits, but last year Max was better at home than on the road. I'm pretty sure there that is all just statistical noise in most cases, especially when it varies from year to year. I don't think whether he pitches at home or the road will make a difference.

Feel free to stay for the series, but be careful we bite.

I think I will. I can take it. I’ll probably stay out of game day threads though. Ours can get nasty.

Amazing, and good for us, that Dusty Baker hasn't learned a thing about managing pitchers over the last 15yrs.

"The NLDS is an extremely short series and could turn on any number of things. But it’s worth remembering going into it that Dusty Baker has spent the entire season doing Dusty Baker things. If any of those starting pitcher workloads come home to roost, that means there could be a key moment in a playoff game where Cubs hitters get to face Joe Blanton or Oliver Perez."

Is anybody else not feeling nervous at all?

I feel like it was just yesterday that we won the World Series. I would like to win it again, but there is no anxiety like I had going into the playoffs last season. If they don't win, they don't win.

I’m not nervous because I genuinely feel they are better and will win, just like last playoffs. I’m not, not nervous because of the feeling “we won last year and if they don’t win they don’t win we have 2016.” That’s ninny thoughts. I want a mother horsefeathering dynasty

I'm for sure a ninny, but I don't know if those are ninny thoughts or not. Whatever they are, i just have no nerves or anxiety. I was on edge this time last year all through what felt like three months of playoffs. I guess I'm cool with them winning the World Series and then not falling flat on their faces this season and making the playoffs. And because the playoffs are a crap shoot, I have this feeling we are playing with house money and it's all fun no matter what.

I never had many expectations for this season, just due to the recent history of what WS winners do the next year. But what I've seen in the second half has made me expect a deep run here. They have the talent to get it done, and I feel stupid saying it but what they did to step up when needed in all 3 rounds last year and out of the ASB and right after the 3 game sweep in early September makes me believe this team "knows how to win".

Yeah the whole team is basically this,

I'm not nervous, but I never really am till game time. I wasn't super nervous leading up to the WS either.

By first pitch I was a mess though.

I’m getting nervous. Different then last year. Last year was about not horsefeathering it up, this year it’s more a looking forward to good baseball and I hope the cubs win nervous. Edited by minnesotacubsfan
