That is a horseshit call. Javy beat the throw there. Had he had a path to the plate, he scores easily. Since he didn't have a path, he couldn't even get to the plate. Absolute [expletive]. Terrible horsefeathering call. Why does that rule even exist!?

How is that not blocking the plate?

I agree, no sound on. Was there an explanation?

Len thinks that the throw took him to that position so its not blocking the plate.

the ole 'the throw made me kick out my back foot as I easily catch the ball' bit

Man, how could arrieta ever have sucked? His stuff just horsefeathering zips around the zone so much I don't understand how anyone could ever have had the upper hand on him.

He's never going to have the pin point control he had in 2015, and when he tries to hit corners he's going to put a lot of guys on base and rack up his pitch count. If he can just trust that his stuff is still good enough to generate weak contact in the zone, even if he's not racking up Ks, he can still be a very good pitcher. Not close to 2015, but still very valuable.

WTF...what is with the fetishization of hitting singles with runners on base? Got 3 texts in quick succession essentially saying "glad Rizzo hit that single; scoring via HR is lame."

I love dongs as much as the next guy, but I do enjoy some versatility, where we don't need to flash dongs to still have a healthy day on offense.

That's...not the right way to use 'versatility'. A home run is the best possible result of every offensive at bat. It's like playing blackjack and hoping to occasionally get 16s and 17s rather than 21.

What I'm trying to say, is that there will be some days when dongs are a lot more difficult to come by. Wind blowing in or facing some dude who doesn't give up dongs or playing in a giant park. I like an offense that can slug, but I also like one that can score a bunch of runs when slugging is made more improbable.

Average team somehow leads by 4 runs.

Instead of making fun of him, maybe you should try to talk to him. Take a mentor role.

Dude has been here longer than Duke and is probably older than him, too.
