Why are we even in a position to bring some no name into a 2-2 game against a good team? horsefeathers.

Because one of our starters unexpectedly went on the DL and we had to spot start with one of our bullpen arms?

It's pretty much mid-june...I'm not saying we are there yet, but at what point do we just say 'we are a mediocre team this year'?

I'll give them until the deadline. .500 teams can still make a run in a crappy division with some deadline additions. I really dont see any of the other teams in this division getting more than 5-6 games above .500 at any point so we will always be in it if we tread water.

The 2015 Cubs were still only 5 over .500 after the Phillies swept them in late June (the Hamels no-no series), and 5 over again when they lost the day after the Bryant walk-off vs Colorado. So I guess they need to be given at least until the end of the month.

I've already been there. Pretty sure this is a mediocre team that doesn't have good enough pitching and has an offense that has slumped too much.

That said, the smart people on the board seem to think we will be fine, so that offers me hope.

I don't know if there is any thing that smart people know other than "most of these players won a championship last year and are playing the worst division in baseball right now so are only 1 game out of 1st place."

I would have expected the starting pitching to come around by now. I think last year at this time, every starter had an ERA in the 2's. This year if you combine Butler/Anderson everyone has an ERA over 4. Is that fatigue from extra innings? Is the regression that severe? I feel like every time I think one of them is coming around (Lester had his ERA around 3.10 after his CG, Hendricks had a run of solid starts, Lackey had the 8 IP game vs. the Cardinals, Arrieta has been pretty decent lately), they fall back down.

If they lose this game, they'll be all of 3 wins off a 90 win pace. 5 wins off a 95 win pace. We've been spoiled by the super Cubs starting with Schwarber's arrival in 2015, but they're still in a spot where one streak puts them right back on track.

Also, the schedule is about to break. After Sunday, 21 of the 26 games until the All-Star break are against teams below .500. The 5 are a 4 game series against the Nationals and the Brewers rainout makeup.

Or another losing streak kicks them in the dicks.

My Name is Zobrist and I'm here to say that I suck in the cleanup spot in a major way

I don't have the sound on....is there any specific reason why he was bunting as the cleanup hitter with runners on 1st and 3rd and 0 outs? I'm really confused.

Dunno; all I've got is Gameday.
