The Brewers suck. The whole division sucks. We've played pretty much the worst we could possibly play and we're 1 game out. The Brewers got a month of Barry Bondsian production out of a guy who strikes out every other AB now, and they are still a .500 team. They blow. And the talent disparity is still ridiculous, even if it's not as huge as we once thought it was. I'm not scared whatsoever by any team in our division. We'll be resting guys for a full week in September.

They score runs against everybody even without their whole lineup. Shaw out? Braun out? It doesn't matter. They mash. Some catcher named Michael Pina is hitting like Willson was supposed to.

Their starting pitching has been rock solid and the numbers suggest it hasn't been a fluke.

Their middle relief blows but it's also the easiet thing to trade for.

Now, I will say even with all that they are still only four above .500. But that's because they have blown a lot of games late. Which is better than us blowing a lot of games early.

The Brewers rotation currently has Jimmy Nelson and Chase Anderson pitching at a 5 win pace, Matt Garza pitching decently(he's already gotten hurt), and Davies/Peralta both pitching poorly. So if you think Jimmy Nelson and Chase Anderson are aces(you will get incredible odds on this if you're a betting man), then yes, the Brewers rotation is rock solid. If you think that Nelson is going to fade like he did last year(a year ago today his ERA was identical to this year) and Anderson hasn't magically discovered a way to keep half as many fly balls from going over the fence, then their rotation is decidedly mediocre at best.

Peralta no longer is in the rotation. Opening Day starter Junior Guerra is back. But I realize your point remains the same.

Duke and TT have spoken. It doesn't get any bigger than those two on the board. Hopefully, they are right like they are 80 percent of the time.

Winning the terrible division wouldn't surprise me; the Cubs actually doing much in the postseason if they don't SIGNIFICANTLY improve from where they are right now would. Which, hey, very well could happen! But it just kinda sucks a third of the season is gone and that the defense, starting pitching AND offense are all where they are. It doesn't seem unreasonable at all for people to be pessimistic given the expectations going in to the season. Even anticipating some regressing, being this mediocre after 60 games is worrisome, and ideally being able to scrap to come out ahead in a division of turds isn't exactly comforting.

The Brewers will still be sellers by the deadline.

Unless they fall out of the race quickly I don't see them selling. But at the same time I don't see them adding either. They might take a similar route that we did and just only add someone like Dan Haren. While we will most likely add some pitcher of significant value to our starting rotation.

Okay that probably accurate. But we are going to have to play better than .500 baseball to knock them out of the race.

Yeah, nothing about the Central screams "this team is falling out of the race any time soon".

That's some heavy hitters saying the Crew suck and will be out of this race. I like it, even though it's wrong.

To be clear I'm not saying the Brewers are going to fall out of the race, there's a whole lot of games in the NL(especially in the Central) that somebody has to win. But any Cubs pessimism has to be tempered by the fact that their primary opposition for the division is a team with a solid offense that is probably owed some regression, and a mediocre pitching staff that is absolutely due for regression. In other words, if the Cubs start playing like they're capable of, they will fulfill Duke's prophesy and have a boring last couple weeks in September. Even if Russell goes to jail and Schwarber and Arrieta never break out of their funk and any acquisition isn't a game changer, they're still favored to win the division by several games.
