A part of me wants to see the Hulk run into the Green Monster just to see what ensues.

I'm flying out to Boston for this series. Always wanted to see the Cubs at Fenway. Last time Cubs were there the team was absolute horsefeathers.

Can't wait.

Last time they were there, they may have had Mike Olt and Nate Schierholtz in the lineup but they took 2 of 3 and Jake nearly through a no-no.

2014 seems so long ago, after all the winning.

yep

mostly what i remember about 2014 was the emergence of god mode jake...i think he almost threw a no hitter the start before that almost no no in boston too. then baez call up, which was super exciting at first with that series in colorado and then sad. then soler came up and for the month of september you started to see it turn, which is funny since a big part of that was jorge who wound up sucking. that series in st louis when he just wrecked them (len saying how you could collectively sense the cardinal crowd going "WHAT was THAT after soler's second massive dong) after also hitting a dong in his first AB vs cincy.

but i just remember starting to feel what halfway decent and fun baseball felt like to watch again in september (then i think rizzo and castro got hurt which put a bit of a damper on it)

Can't believe I forgot the 2014 series. According to BR the Cubs swept them including a 16-9 win.

The Chicago Cubs had a 2014 season?

I remember Iowa and Tennessee playing baseball that season, but not the Cubs.

Yep. Like you said in your other post, 2014 was when things started to turn. In addition to what you posted:

-Rizzo bounced back after his disappointing 2013 (.742 OPS) and started to turn into a stud (.913 OPS)

-Bryant was destroying the minors

-Schwarber was drafted and destroyed the minors for a couple months

-Billy Beane got drunk and traded Russell to us

Yeah, 2014 was a sneaky fun year. A lot was because we got to watch those new young guys we'd been dreaming of for several years. But, beyond that, there was just an overall sense of "It's all over, all in the past, let's do this." I remember there was a game when they interviewed Rizzo after the game, and he basically said "I'm the leader now and it's time to win." It was nice to be optimistic for once.

I say 2014 seems so long ago, though, mainly because we went from losing big to winning big so quickly. 2014 might have been somewhat of a transition year. But as Omar said, 2009-2013 blend together so much. At least for me. I don't know how some of you guys remember so many random details from random games in random years. I have trouble remembering specific plays from last year even, unless I am reminded of them.

I think Mike Olt hit a bomb over the Green Monster in that Arrieta game too. I was thinking maybe this guy will be something after all.

Wait, this is supposed to be SSR's game thread. What is this flimflam.

Trump is deporting all of his "help", and there's this pesky livery strike to navigate

The sanctity of the Game Thread starter order is gone apparently

Was 2014 the only time in the regular season the Cubs played in Fenway? Also was 2005 the only year Boston played at Wrigley? My brain is fuzzy from about mid 2010- mid 2014

they played in like 2011 at fenway too i'm pretty sure

i remember kenney and the ricketts all going and scouting ideas for the renovations (also probably doing some recon on theo)

and boston played at wrigley in the first year or two of the rebuild...remember seeing the FO guys hanging out with pedroia, ortiz, and others in BP.

especially funny how quick on the trigger he was considering the off day in between

And SSR is Mr. Boston and everything, too.

This seems like a violation of the highest Derwoodian level.

And considering he whiffed on his actual turn
