Rumors the Chiefs offered the 27, their 2 and 3, and next year's 1 and 2 for the 3rd pick

Not gonna lie, if that's true, passing on all that hurts quite a bit.

Just going off the "traditional" trade chart, that doesnt get close. Represents about 80% value of what it needs to.

Based off an analytical model, its like 80% excess value...

So analytics say you run with that, but as a market participant you're kind of leaving "easy" value on the table... kind of an intetesting. Personally at that high in the draft, I'd say stick to market values/trends. Use the analytical model to get deals later on.

I realized that as well. But I don't know, how well has that chart held up for the most recent major trade-ups on draft day? Genuinely curious.

Without doing the math, I think most QB trade ups have equaled #1 pick value at least, including the trades up to 2. Can't recall any recent trade ups that high that werent for a QB.

The value was a bit light, if Pace sees Trubisky as a franchise guy(he obviously does), you'd need to be overwhelmed to move out of 3. They were just too far down to pull off a move like that. Kind of fun to think about though.....

Love the Howard signing. Hopefully he beats out Unrein.

Sutton is probably the low man on the totem pole at the moment.

Unrein is a DE starter for us currently, isn't he? Hicks/Goldman/Unrein with Floyd/Houston and McPhee/Young playing OLB?

I wouldn't be surprised if Unrein is cut tomorrow. If the Bears feel comfortable with Howard's health, there's just no need for Unrein who provides nothing in the way of pass rush. He's a warm body who doesn't have as much talent as Howard, nor as much upside as Bullard, John Jenkins, Robertson-Harris, or probably even Will Sutton.

Its a rotational spot and multiple guys will see snaps obviously, but I'd expect Sutton to be the guy cut first. Unrein isn't much either, but unless Bullard takes a step forward, I'd expect him to see plenty of snaps one way or another. Hopefully Howard sees the most, by far though.

I'm really interested in how Robertson-Harris looks. I think he'll be the reason we cut Houston in a month or so.

It's true that the value is a little light (I probably would've asked for like maybe a 2018 4th or maybe a 2019 pick if that's possible?- just to squeeze a little more from them). I wonder what pick Chiefs would've had to be in order for Pace to pull the trigger assuming the offer was legit? 23? 20? I don't think you would get that offer if they were in the top 20 IMO.

It would've been interesting to see what kind of draft we would've had instead with these:

27

2- 2nd

2- 3rd

2- 4th

5th

7th

then have 2- 1st, 2nd next season

Pace really would've had the ammo to move up next season for a QB if he wanted to. Could've set up the team to rebound quickly if he hit on a few of those picks.

Pace wanted Trubisky, not no next year QB.

Yeah, who would want a QB next year, what with that class being universally considered to be far better than this year?

Oh, I didnt realize you got to draft a class of quarterbacks, thought you only got one. Good to know.

I wanted one of them next year too. I think there'll be multiple guys expected to be better than Trubisky. But, its immaterial, if Pace thinks Trubisky is a franchise guy himself.(which he does)

He took a chance now, instead of waiting and running into a chance that the Bears can't find a way to move up to get one of them or they don't wind up developing as expected.

If he's wrong, he's fired. If we DO wind up in a position to draft one next year, he'll get a true haul for trading out of the pick.

As others have pointed out, if you are the GM and you think this guy is the guy, you cannot pass on him and wait til next year. Who the hell knows where you're even drafting next year. If you're like me, and have doubts about a guy, then you think about next year's draft as an option, but not if you really like this guy.

It is a deeper class next year.

Sam Darnold, all of 9 starts under his belt, does look like the next big thing, and if you tried would struggle to be in a spot to grab him.

Josh Rosen looks talented, but just missed half of this season's campaign to injury and apparently has off field concerns.

Josh Allen, one season against subpar competition. However unsure anyone feels about Trubisky and lack of experience, you should feel approximately 100 times less sure of Allen.

Those are probably the consensus top 3, then you have Falk, Browning, Rudolph, Jackson in the next teir and then several more amongst the teir after.

But overall, while definitely a deep group, other than the guy with 366 passes and THREE remaining years of eligibility, none of these guys look like anything that wasn't available this draft or the previous one, just a bit deeper perhaps.

But on top of that analysis, whether you want to quibble with the above or whatever, all that still really matters is ; Was Trubisky worth what we paid for him now? If the rest of the 2017 class would be third rounders next year, all that really matters still is how Trubiksy ranks now.

On Friday it became official that Cutler will now be launching his broadcast career, hired by Fox Sports to be a color analyst on a broadcast team that also includes Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis.

Yeah, as much as I wanted one next year, its impossible to actually blame Pace for taking his shot now. He obviously likes Trubisky enough to risk his job on him.

Plus, even if we had made the KC deal.....We wouldn't have the ammo to get past Cleveland, if they liked the same QB.

There's plenty that like Allen better than Darnold currently. And this transfer Auburn has(Stidham) looks like he's going to potentially be mentioned with the top tier of guys too.

Its still definitely worth following, because it still helps us indirectly, if that class is awesome.

I'd rather hang out and call sports with Burkhart on Sundays and live in Nashville Monday-Saturday than play QB for the horsefeathering Jets and live in NJ.

Jay is a smart man. Please don't change too much though my beautiful bird.

I almost included a "(no offense gooney)" there but thought it would be confusing since you don't play QB for the Jets.

Pace, because he wanted Trubisky, who was in this year's draft class, dummy.
