There is a sense that the Cubs have passed. Their primary concerns are freeing up money, not for Harper, just to have more flexibility. Unsure if the Dodgers rumors are accurate, dont have people from out West to run things by. White Sox seem to be right in not being confident.

Angels have been my second guess on a Harper/Manny mystery team. My first guess and hope is obviously the Cubs as the mystery dance partner.

I don't remember seeing this before, but it lines up with the timing of the Reddit post. It was well known that the Dodgers are trying to shop Puig, but the bit about him wanting to be in LA?

 

The Dodgers stressed leading up to and throughout the Winter Meetings that they didn't feel pressured to trade from their surplus in Vegas, and it held true. They would love to free up payroll by finding a taker for Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp, but it doesn't sound like there's much interest there unless they take on some salary in return. For Kemp, it's expected. For Puig, not ideal. Still expect them to trade at least one outfielder and one starting pitcher at some point. Bryce Harper badly wants to be a Dodger, but he'll have to sacrifice years — and thus, total value — to play in Los Angeles.

As late as September, I would have been very surprised if Harper had signed anywhere but with the Cubs. Now I would bet good money he doesn't. I think he'll wait as long as it takes for the Dodgers to make trades and then sign there

MLB off-season is the worst. Free agency in the other major sports is largely resolved within a few weeks, but in baseball we have to put up with months of posturing and non-activity. There is no more hot stove. There is only a lukewarm tub of bathwater, while team owners count their growing piles of money and prepare to pass any cost increases on to the fans.

 

I reserve the right to declare MLB off season great again if Harper signs with the Cubs, but that isn't happening.
