I like this angle with Harper:

Harper is the admirable baseball villain of our time, and it's so much fun. A couple of days ago in Cincinnati, he came to the plate and you can plainly hear a fan shout out "overrated" about one second before he tattooed a monster home run to straightaway center field. That's perfect villain stuff. Then on Monday in Atlanta, they played "Imperial March" from "Star Wars" when Harper came to the plate -- that's the song that always plays when Darth Vader is involved -- and he crushed another ridiculous home run to center field.

...

Players have different reactions to booing. Most don't care or at least say they don't care. Some take it a little bit to heart. And every now and again, there's a player who loves the boos, who feeds off of them, who enjoys being the pro wrestling heel.

If anyone forgot his first ML plate appearance - Cole Hamels hit him with a pitch on purpose and Harper went on to steal home.

That did happen, but his first plate appearance was vs. the Dodgers.

During “Game Night” this past offseason, Bryant’s wife mouthed “over rated” just before Bryce dropped the word “quickly” with a triple word score in Scrabble. BOOM!! Sixty-six points plus an additional 50 for using all his tiles. Don’t mess with Bryce.

I've been spending a lot of time in DC lately and needling Nats fans about future Cub Bryce Harper. For most, the Cubs aren't even on their radar. They expect him either to be signed by 1) the Yankees or 2) the Nats, in that order. I don't think most of them have any idea of how the luxury tax works.

At what point will Kris be making enough money a year to stop pimping various products in every picture? Everybody has endorsements, but you rarely ever see him wearing actual Cubs gear.

What? That answer should be "never."

Probably never since it’s smart and he can work it in to his everyday stuff and doesn’t really have to go out of his way to do it. He arguably can do the promotion stuff for his “living money” and never have to actually touch his baseball salary until he’s long out of baseball.

Yeah make whatever you can I guess. It is mildly irritating when he wears Adidas gear that is Cub blue. He stands out like a sore thumb when he is with other players. He immediately takes gear off or changes it post game.

When the Cubs start paying him as much as his endorsements, maybe he'll give it more consideration.

This is a really weird thing to get irked by. He’s not flying to LA the night before a game to film a commercial or showing up late to games because he got stuck in traffic coming back from a promo at a car dealership in northern Indiana. He literally is just working in his endorsements to his everyday life and maybe having to remember to @ a company or put a hashtag on a post. Also, how don’t you know this isn’t part of the Cubs helping him make more money since arbitration supresses him and he was held back for control. Could be “hey Kris we know we played games to have you make less money but we have relationships with XYZ companies that you can make more money by just throwing on a horsefeathering hat.”

I'm fine with the Cubs paying him the lowest amount he'll accept, but being annoyed that he's hawking products is flat-out weird. He's on a career trajectory where his money is going to make real money for him. Earning as much as he possibly can with low effort is incredibly wise.

literally everything else he was wearing was Cubs (I guess not his shoes) including Nike shorts.

I think the bar with getting annoyed at his endorsements is when he does something on the level of fake shaving a unibrow.

I don't think I'd seen Quintana smile before. It's weird

honestly took me a second to figure out who that was and i think it was because of the smile

I thought is was one of the players' teenage-ish daughter.
