What the hell is roughing the center?

I have watched over 7 million football games, and that is the first time I have ever seen that called

It's really not that uncommon. I believe it was called against the Bears last year, and I know I saw it called at least twice against college teams last season

So the only sure things are Bama at No. 1 and Washington at No. 6 (at best). OSU will be in the top-4 and I'm guessing they'll be No. 2 but I have no idea.

Also, if OSU beats Michigan and Penn State wins out, Penn State goes to the Big 10 title game.

The 2 best seasons since Carr retired, Michigan has gone 20-3.

2 of those losses were to Iowa at Kinnick horsefeathering stadium

It's a tough place to play if you aren't MAC teams, Iowa State or the best FCS team ever.

There really was no point where I thought Iowa would win that.

Cool!

Then you strangely have no clue the power that Iowa City holds over Michigan. Your horsefeathering basketball arena is a place wolverines go to die as well.

Actually this feels kind of good to get this worked up over sports again. I thought I was going to be permanently numb

Man that was probably the most painful Michigan football loss in 9 years and it doesn't even mean all that much in terms of their shot at the playoffs

Nah, it does feels like we always play Michigan tough. I still lose sleep over Iowa's game at the Big House in 1997. I really thought Michigan was almost Alabama good (still may be, they just missed some big plays and made some dumb ones) and I didn't see how Iowa could hang with them.

If you think about it coming into this game they struggled against Colorado, struggled against Wisconsin and curb stomped Penn State. All at home. They played 2 road games before this, one was close enough to be fairly close against a team that isn't going bowling. Sure they've completely destroyed all the other cupcakes we've played but they've played 3 good teams before today and had issues with 2 of them. I have no idea how Penn State is any good

Roughing the center is a penalty that prevents teams from driving right through the long-snapper on field goals/punts. Due to the extra effort/attention that the long snapper has to give to the snap, it's deemed an unfair advantage to just run him over. You can jump over him if you want, but if you even touch him before he looks up from snapping the ball it's a penalty.

In my high school games the referee that spotted the ball would always repeat over and over on field goals "lay off the center, don't hit the center".

That's my input on roughing the center, but holy horsefeathers how many upsets happened today?

It's going to be a mess this year

I still think the top 3 plays out easy. If Clemson wins out they are in, if not then Louisville is in. The Michigan/OSU winner is in. Alabama has just about clinched.

The 4th spot is going to be a free for all and I like the chances of a 2 loss team making it

I've seen it called 3 other times, all involving ND. Twice against, once for.

Thank goodness that garbage didn't end up mattering

It's going to be fun as a 3rd party observer to see it all play out. Alabama is already in (would have to lose twice to fall out and LOL SEC East) but every other spot is up for grabs. We could definitely see the first playoff that isn't just 4 conference champs this year.

The Big 10 will get really interesting if OSU beats Michigan and PSU wins the Big 10 title game. We'd have

-a 2-loss Penn State as the champion with a win over OSU

-a 1-loss OSU with a win over Michigan

-a 2-loss Michigan that hammered Penn State

I'd guess OSU would get in because you can't put PSU in over Michigan because of how badly Michigan beat PSU, but the committee has shown they prioritize conference champions and H2H. Of course, we didn't have a conference champ with a worse record than another team in the same conference either of the last two years.

Like you said, Bama's in if they win one of the next two. I actually think Louisville is in if they win their last two regardless of what Clemson does. If Clemson goes down then it's easy to put Louisville in but if Clemson wins out, Louisville's only loss will be by 6 on the road to another playoff team. So barring any major upsets I'll say it's Bama, Clemson, Louisville and OSU/Michigan winner.
