I'll never understand why Matusz made this start.

 

You can't figure out why they were hoping to get the staff some extra rest?

 

And also figure out if they had no back-up option, or if they had this guy in Iowa that maybe sorta could fill in if need be.

 

The timing of the start makes me wonder if it's this exactly, and that it would be a factor as to how hard they're going to push for one over the next 12 hours or so.

Because the cupboard really is bare in the SP depth department.
