Hey everybody,

David did a nice job helping the cubs to win 3 games in a row. They sucked for a while before that so there is progress there and I tip my cap to him. But, it's time to at least triple that winning streak.

I joined more than 10 years ago but I'm a game thread virgin. But just like a trump/pence logo I am sure that I can help the cubs penetrate the win column again.

The Cubs play & Jon Lester is scheduled to pitch.

Jon is a seasoned veteran. He's hard nosed and pitched in lot of games and has a "no nonsense" attitude i believe. He's also a cancer survivor but ironically enjoys shooting and killing animals at times. perhaps the deer below had terminal cancer, but i'm not sure anyone will ever know for sure. Regardless, he is a good pitcher and you can look up his stats at sites like Fangraphs yourself.

VS.

The hated Mets & Steven Matz is scheduled to pitch.

Steven is not seasoned because he's only 13 (and sort of favors a prepubescent Barney Fife). Matz is pretty good too, normally, but I'm confident he won't be tomorrow.

All true cubs fans hate the Mets for years like 1969 and most recently last year

I own a Mets shirt

Cubs win 6-1.

Oh, this is going to be entertaining no matter what. I love it when the Cubs and Mets play these days.

I certainly don't the last 8 times

I would also like to make a confession. I spent a small part of my childhood in Queens near Shea Stadium. As a kid, I originally called myself a Mets fan.

If this is a true confessions thread,

[shudder]I was a Duke fan and liked Bobby Hurley, until I got to college. [/shudder]

After 4 years of marriage my wife confessed to me that she claimed to be a cardinals can when she was a child. I told her i would have preferred her confessing to an affair.

Luckily she really doesn't care about sports and roots for whatever keeps me from yelling at the tv

I'll admit the same. I watched the 93-95 Sox as much as I watched the Cubs and idolized Frank Thomas, who is still one of my favorite players despite the White Sox uniform. At the end of 1995 though the .500ish Cubs went on a winning streak toward the end of the season and were alive for the WC on the last weekend, I went to 2 of games of that final series vs. Houston and for some reason that pushed me over the edge for the Cubs. By 97, I was at the Cell for the first Cubs/Sox series rooting hard for the Cubs.

I would probably not have much of a dislike at all for the Sox if it wasn't for their fans. I have yet to meet a Sox fan who finds out I'm a Cubs fan and doesnt' immediately start spewing hatred for all things Cub. Meanwhile, I give them the 'I really don't have anything against the Sox' line which pisses them off even more.

I've told this story before...the extent of my Sox "fandom" was that I had a Sox hat in the early-mid 90s, but I didn't watch at all. Jordan's comeback in March of 95 is what got me really amped up for sports and then the Cubs decent 95 season that immediately followed, plus the Bears with the "big" offense with Conway and Graham and I was in (pretty funny since all those teams were pretty damn mediocre). Then as the 95-96 Bulls happened, I was officially all in on sports.

I also always played as the Cowboys in tecmo bowl (which I played despite not giving a crap about sports) and called myself a fan prior to the Bears.

I loved Frank Thomas and Bo Jackson (and, kinda randomly, Jack McDowell), but I never let it me slip to actually becoming a fan of the team.

I used to get free tickets to see them somewhat regularly. First for perfect attendance every year from k-5th or 6th grade, then from a neighbor with season tickets that gave me them quite often. They were fun enough to watch, but I never cared at all about who won or lost.

Yeah, I went to a bunch of games there during the 90's; somehow family members were constantly getting free tickets. It was fun to see certain players, but I'll be damned if I can remember ever caring if the White Sox actually won or not.
