Jake is now our 6th best starter.

Have you watched Lackey's last few starts?

I was including Montero above him.

Ah. Gotcha.

Now that Contreras is here and real and beautiful, Montero is just a bag of meat to me.

I hear ya...Willson certainly takes the sting out of Montero's sudden inability to play baseball. I still like the guy and wish he was better though.

A big part of it is I find him very disconcerting to look at. Any time my Cubs team can be better-looking, I'm all for it.

That's fair. Most of my affection for him comes from his broken english on twitter, and his running to first on walks faster than he runs the bases at any other time.

Castro deal was AWESOME

I'm sure Castro has a fairly high Neifi Index* for the Cubs this year

*Named for infielder Neifi Pérez, this statistic measures a player's ability to contribute to his team's success by not playing. Introduced as an award that "we, the great whiffing, grounder-booting, sedentary lifestyle-leading masses, wouldn't just have a chance of winning if we were allowed to play. We'd be a lock", the Neifi Index is the difference between a player's team's winning percentage when he does not play and when he does play. It is called the Neifi Index because when Kaufman first computed it, the San Francisco Giants winning percentage when Pérez did not play was .929, but was only .542 when he did play, thus giving Neifi an index of .387

Montero has a delightful personality, and I love how he seems pumped about everything, including earning a walk. But boy has he been painful to watch play this year.

Baez has the same weird personality though, so we can eject Montero into the sun.

I have a lot more confidence in Cahill than the other Cubs middle relievers these days, but I think that's because he hasn't pitched all that much meaning not as many opportunities to f up since that Nationals game

Since June 1st we've only won 1 game while scoring less than 5 runs. Ideally we tack on 6-7 more runs and win handily, but if the offense can't do much more it would be really nice to win a low scoring game for the first time in awhile.

Cahill has actually been pretty solid after getting off to a rough start.

Yeah, he's still walking too many guys, but he's kept the ball in the park, been hard to hit, and gotten K's.

Good post. Timely.

I'll take the blame on that.
