Both mocks have some odd things going on, which is actually more apt to happen, than the typical chalk mocks we've seen mostly....

Mayo has us with Allen/Carlson, Callis has us with Houck/Rasmussen.

I don't think Mayo's mock makes sense financially. Allen will probably require a slight overslot and Carlson a sizable one.

Callis' mock should allow for savings for the second round but I'd rather take my overslot in the first to ensure the Cubs actually select the guy.

Neither Mayo nor Callis have Schmidt in the first.

Per the twitters, Daulton Varsho reportedly had a terrific workout for the Cubs. I remember somebody had us taking him as a big underslot in the 1st. Law? I'd be slightly disappointed with that pick, given how terrible the reports are on his arm behind the plate.

And sign me up for the Schmidt/Allen mocks.

I feel Varsho would be like Delta House accepting Flounder because he was legacy.

Yeah, I mean even his upside doesn't sound great. Jason Kendall without the ability to hit for average. The rest of the draft would have to be pretty amazing to make up for that pick.

Can't wait for Harold Reynolds to proclaim Greene and McKay are both going to be all-star level hitters and pitchers tonight amongst a million other nonsensical statements.

Fwiw, I only gave Varsho a marginal (47), 4th round.

I just hope that if we do take him, its for around half of slot.

I talked to a guy this morning about Varsho who have seen him personally, and he told me that he's much closer to 30th in this class than he is to 60. Apparently the bat is a lot better than what little I could find to read about online. One guy I trust told me that he would consider placing a 70 on his raw power (still about 55 in-game). That's significantly better than what the interwebz would have me believe. Thinks he's a 55 hit guy as well. Said the arm was "pitiful" but that he received the ball "adequately". Above average runner that could play LF if need be, which he thinks is likely. Honestly, that package sounds a bit similar to what Schwarber was coming out.

It's only one guy, but he's watched a lot of baseball in that region. I trust his report.
