The Cubs placed 6 in MLB's top 100 pre-season. It'll be interesting to see if those numbers hold true. Contreras and Torres will likely be top 25. Happ (70), Underwood (71), Almora (80) and McKinney (82) populated the back end of the list.

Assuming no drastic changes, Underwood and McKinney will likely drop off. Happ should still be top 100. Almora I can see making the list based on his defensive value, batting average and being one of the youngest in his league.

Jimenez should make it fairly easily if things hold true for him. Has Clifton done enough to make it? Has anyone else done enough to keep that number at 6 in the top 100 come mid-season?

Marquez' profile honestly excites me more than any other J-2 signing we made this period.

Top ranked LHP...He and Perez were two of a handful of pitchers - if that - already 6'3"+...Already in the low 90s...I'd say he stacks with Steele/ Sands/ Underwood/Blackburn as amateurs.

Yunior Perez, the other higher profile pitcher, was one of three 7/2 IFAs McDaniel gave the fastball a future 60 and current 50 to last year. He's got the biggest frame of the three and IIRC the youngest.

With a first inning HR, Ian Rice brought his MWL average to .400. I don't know how much about him but he is a C and was drafted by both the Cardinals and Red Sox.

Rice also has a very Cub-like 19/14 BB/K.

At this moment in time, I would not think of Happ as a top 100 guy. He's striking out ... what 1/4th of the time, without hitting for a high average and without hitting for a lot of pop. I think Happ can certainly work his way back into top 100 contention by season's end ... but as of now, I'm hard pressed to buy into it (since his bat is going to be his calling card) unless the minors are really that weak overall.

Contreras and Torres should be safely top 30. Right now, I think Almora might even slide up a bit, maybe top 70. Eloy probably gets in top 75, and maybe even top 50. I think Clifton could get some votes as of now to be back end top 100. If Vogelbach keeps hitting and hitting with power, wouldn't surprise me if he got some votes for back end top 100.

I gotta think the aforementioned names, as of this moment in time, are it, though, as possible top 100 guys, unless someone takes a major step forward (or someone comes back, like de la Cruz, and lights it up).

What's with the glut of middle infielders?

17 year old shortstops become 22 year old third basemen and left fielders. Junior Lake is a very good example.

My sarcasm was hardening back to the Russell/Baez/Mendy/Castro conversations.

Speaking of Mendy, he is sporting a .270/.322/.454 line with 5 home runs. Though his 55 K's to 14 walks is an eyesore, could be end up being useful?

Sooner or later, somebody's going to realize that Tim Federowicz is taking up a roster spot, so maybe he'll get another shot.
