I guess Szczur would get the final bench spot for pinch running & outfield defense, if Schwarber is going to play more catcher?

There's really no need to continue the Baez outfield experiment.

If Baez can play a rangy, canon-armed OF spot, why would you bother giving Szczur any playing time at all?

If it's true that the team was surprised, just imagine Soler and Baez when they see Fowler walking up. The rest of the team is cheering, and they are just standing there like, "horsefeathers".

I know we are supposedly not making a move, but they wouldn't have known at the time.

Maybe. Schwarber did say that he doesnt give a crap about playing time, he's just glad Dexter is back and only cares about winning.

Could be disingenuous, but I think there is a shred of truth in it. Also because Schwarber knows he smash baseballs well enough that any thoughts of limiting his playing time will be short lived.

Soler was smiling and clapping when Fowler walked up.

Then again, he might not have known just like Ross lol

This tweet makes my brain hurt. Explain it to me.

It isn't anything you didn't already know, apart from the fact that Fowler has never started anywhere apart from CF, and Montero has at least one start in both LF and RF during his career, which is stunning. EDIT: It seems to have hurt my brain too. Scratch that about Montero.

Odd way of saying the Cubs have at least three guys at every position who have MLB experience at said position.

Am I the only person here that was able to read that chart with ease? I don't see what the problem is.

The way he wrote it made it sound like the Cubs had three individual players who had played every position at the MLB level over their individual careers.

What am I missing. It says Montero only has played at catcher. Or no?

The chart isn't hard to read, his narrative/tweet on it was a little weird

Apart from my goof, it isn't the chart that is confusing. It was the text of the tweet that was very awkwardly ordered. There aren't any individual players that have started at all positions. But the team collectively has at least 3 players who have a start at each defensive position...it is still confusing to state. I give up.

I attributed Schwarber's line to Montero because I am not smart.

I think its wrong, too. Bryant didnt start any games at 1B or CF, let alone multiple at each, did he? I know he was subbed into CF a few times, but not started.

He only had 1 start at 1B and CF that I can find.

I think he started at least 1 game in CF last year. I want to say in Pittsburgh. Can't recall any 1B starts or appearances.

Bryant definitely started at both 1B and CF. Only once each, I think, though.
