In news that doesn't involve schools covering up or not caring about violence against women, the Big 12 is apparently bringing back their championship game starting in 2017 even with 10 teams. For some reason, they plan to split into divisions even though everyone plays each other anyway.

Why is this confusing? They've been told outright by the selection committee that NOT having a championship game is counting against them, so why wouldn't they just artificially create a system to appease them?

The championship game isn't confusing, the division part is. If they don't need divisions - and they don't - they might as well just match the 2 highest-ranked teams in the committee rankings. It makes little practical difference, though.

I thought it was a stupid rumor but it's catching too much steam now where people within Baylor are trying to have Briles brought back after a 1 year suspension. Who the hell is running the PR out of Baylor.

The legal situation facing two Alabama football players ended Monday.

 

The district attorney in Monroe, La., decided not to pursue prosecution of Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones, AL.com confirmed.

 

Robinson faced felony charges from the May 17 arrest in a public park in Monroe. He was charged with possession of a stolen gun and possession of marijuana.

 

According to the police report, Robinson and Jones were arrested after 2 a.m. when police spotted their car parked in a closed public park. Both were charged with possession of marijuana. Jones had a gun in his lap. A second gun, determined to be stolen, was found under Robinson's seat.

 

 

DA Jerry Jones told KNOE-TV the thinking behind the decision.

 

"I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and their teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all home in the air conditioning," Jones told KNOE.

Michigan is taking a $2M bath on the Arkansas series, didn't manage to get the even-year game at home (so they have to go to Columbus and South Bend in the same year again) and even allowed their home game to be played in late October in 2019, against the B1G's general doctrine of 'not distracting from league games'. (Presumably ND wanted it there because they're already playing @ Georgia in Sept. 2019.)

 

I like all those things, of course, but it's interesting that UM seems to have bent over backwards to this degree to make this work.

 

Funnily enough, Arkansas is now stuck without a 2018 and '19 Power 5 non-conference opponent to satisfy the SEC requirement to play one. Can't believe they're thrilled with the timing of this.

However, it's certainly possible that the NCAA has uncovered a bunch of new allegations, but an NOA only comes after a joint investigation between the school and the NCAA, so if this were happening I'm sure it would already be known by everyone.
