Make your choice for the Cubs 2016 #2 prospect.

Cast votes for the players you think would be deserving at #2. You can vote for one player at this point, but you can change your vote up to the closing date.

If you want to have a player added to the list, please say so.

#1: Gleyber Torres

I'm actually going with Happ here, thinking that if he sticks at 2B, that bat could be special for that spot. I'm sure Contreras wins out, but the questions on his D turns it into bat vs. bat for me between these two and I like Happ's a lot more.

I almost went Happ with similar reasoning along with the college bat success the FO has had, but Contreras got my vote thinking he can at least become an adequate defensive catcher, tools are there, and the bat is real. Happ will be my #3 vote.

I have Contreras here, by a lot. I'm not a huge fan of Happ. There's still some questions on defense... which, he might be passable at second, or maybe could play center. If not, fine, he can be a pretty good corner outfielder. So, it's not like defense is a huge knock, if there is a chance he can stick at a spot up in the defensive spectrum. But, it's certainly not a huge positive. But, really, I just don't like all the swing-and-miss. I love the walks, but I don't think he'll hit for enough power to make me OK with that K-rate. I just am not a huge fan. If he can cut down the K's and stick at second, then I'll come around. Until then, I don't have him anywhere near Contreras.

Hopefully one of the big name pitchers can breakout and come out of this season looking like a legit number one or two prospect in the system. While I can appreciate not wanting to spend valuable first round picks on pitchers, since young pitchers are prone to injuries, it is a bit frustrating to see the pitching portion of the farm system be rather weak after four years of Theo at the helm.

Personally I'm still irritated a top ten pick was spent on Almora. When the selection was made it sounded like the logic behind it was Almora had a high floor. I don't like the idea of using a top ten pick on someone based upon them being a good bet to at least be a tolerable player.

I wanted Giolito with that selection, since using a non-top five pick on someone who based on pure stuff was worthy of being taken number one overall seemed like a worthwhile gamble to make (even with the injury concerns). I pretty much had the same opinion with Brady Aiken in 2015.
