Yikes. Have to imagine that's probably it for him as a starter in 2018.

 

Matheny doesn't recognize it, but it's the best move for the Cards. As mentioned above, he could be a force in the bullpen.

Michael Wacha has made 12 starts against the Cubs since the start of the 2015 season. He's given up at least 5 ER in 7 of them. He also gave up 3 ER in an inning the one time he faced the Cubs out of the pen. Oh and he gave up 3 dongs in his one playoff start against the Cubs.

 

Including the playoffs, since the start of the 2015 season, he's pitched 12.0% of his innings against the Cubs and given up 23.9% of his ER against the Cubs. 30.6% of his HR have been given up to the Cubs. He has an 8.03 ERA against the Cubs and a 3.48 ERA against the rest of the league in that time.

The video shows Martinez in a hotel room with other members of his team there to console him, including outfielders Marcell Ozuna and Tommy Pham and catcher Franciso Pena.

 

Describing what happened, a rough translation of the video indicates Martinez says "a ghost has appeared right here in the room." The caption also mentions how he "can't sleep alone" because of the "ghost in my room."

I think most athletes would tell you it's hard to fix if you're not in there, and I think that's the difficult part when you're managing a club, is trying to balance getting someone going and getting production. A lot of people I think are challenging...cause I've had a lot of people come up to me over the last week or two...and they feel like it's an effort issue.

Mo: And that's what they want to see more of...more aggressiveness, and when you're thinking about contact, hard contact, when you're thinking about going after a ball, being more aggressive. And that's something I certainly want to challenge Dex on getting to, because I feel like he's someone that when we signed him he brought a lot of energy to our club, and right now you're just not seeing that same type and I hope we can get back to that.

 

Mike Kelly: But is there a difference between effort made and energy displayed?

 

Mo: I think you could argue that. Again, I feel like part of effort is perception, and what people see and how you're going about it. Dex has been someone that has the ability to maybe make it look a little easier than most, but I don't know if you're seeing that this year.
