Wes, Pulisic and Jedi were great. Adams is just ... man I love him. I hope he stays healthy forever. He might never score a goal or make a progressive pass his entire career and still be the most impactful US player. Outside of a couple heart palpitations Turner even looked OK with the ball at his feet. I thought Ream had some good moments. England had about what, 1.5 billion dollars worth of players out there today and they looked scared to press us, but that was mostly because Wes played his ass off and even though Musah wasn't great he still was a threat to turn and go 40-50 yards with the ball at his feet

most impressive thing was i felt like we physically dominated them. Even at our worst moments we looked physically even with them.

One of the plays of the game for me

That MMA midfield really went mainstream today. With transfer rumors around Adams and Musah, our midfield is going to have World class expectations going into 26.

Looked it up earlier, and when Kante was Adams' age, he was in his last season at Caen before he got the move to Leicester for their title season(and then immediately moved to Chelsea). If Musah gets enough reps to start racking up key passes and a few goals, he's gonna get a 9 figure move before 2026.

Both Milans are coming in January for Yunus already.

My new life mantra is to be the Tyler Adams for the people I love. That man is in the right place at all the most crucial moments. United was already in on him.

I’m actually most curious to see what this tournament does for Weah. I think he’s ready to jump up.

It's been a little frustrating to watch this team boss their opponents for effectively 120 of 180 minutes over 2 games and end up with 2 draws. Many of the players, especially at the wings (Jedi, Musah, Pulisic, Dest, McKennie, Weah, Adams) have been the best players on the field across both games.

Depth is a bit of a concern, particularly since Gregg has gone with largely the same lineups for 2 games, aside from splitting Wright and Sargent equally (with neither generating really much with their time aside from the one early Sargent header vs Wales). Moore clearly wasn't ready for primetime, Yedlin is fine but a step slow, and Aaronson/Reyna hasn't had much of an opportunity to do anything yet.

I want to say Ream and Zimmerman have been better than I was afraid they'd be, but the only goal the team has given up so far was on Zimmerman, and the US midfield has been so dominant for the majority of the game, there hasn't been a ton being asked of them other than field back passes and distribute the ball forward. CB is still a concern going forward, but Turner and Adams have been good enough where it's only really hurt them once so far.

I am not sure how well they will generate chances against a turtling Iran unless they can get better presence in front of the goal, and their set pieces have done effectively jack horsefeathers, but I'd like their chances against almost any other team that won't sit back.

As weird as it would be to start 3 strikers in 3 games, I kinda think this is a game for Ferreira. He's good at connecting play and excellent at counter pressing, against CONCACAF bunkers he regularly created turnovers in dangerous areas. For similar reasons I'd think about Aaronson coming in for Musah, if not at the start then as a semi-early sub, which also helps manage Musah's workload.

also, there is no universe where Jedi was one of the best players on the field.

Cool look at Wes' game today

this is interesting using a mid to create width. it was super noticeable. The effect seemed to engage Dest upfield but Weah seemed to have less room to operate. Were they doing the same on the other side?

turtling Iran does not describe how they played today. just saying. also, there is no universe where Jedi was one of the best players on the field.

Today, they knew they needed a result against a Wales team that prefers to sit back.

Tuesday, they know they likely advance with a draw, so I fully expect them to go that way.

Robinson was flying up and down the left flank all game and the only dangerous spot he allowed that Adams had to rescue was when he made a great run forward that CP didn't see.

No. It was a totally one-sided overload. Same exact way juventus uses him when they’re actually cooking. He creates chaos in the half spaces by being so effectively unconventional and unlike at Juve, he has a world class ground covering defensive midfield anchor behind him, giving him freedom to improvise.

Is everyone on Argentina 60 years old? Slowest team I’ve ever seen

mexico is playing the lowest line possible. a lot of the argentina attackers are older but it's more about mexico's shape i think

Posted
this is a very dangerous few minutes for Mexico, 3-0 would make advancement a really tough proposition

They got what they deserved. What a piece of horsefeathers team. Again, ref won't give Herrera second yellow.

Mexico needs a dub and an Argentina loss to advance? Love to see it

They can technically advance with any result in the Argentina/Poland game, but both a draw and an Argentina win require some difficult goal differential magic to get there. Plus Saudi Arabia is through with a win or maybe a draw themselves, and Mexico hasn't created anything offensively so far, so they are in deep trouble.

Still trying to imagine the mindset of a manager constantly starting Mason Mount over Phil Foden.

I always feel like he is the Ryan Theriot of football.
