They are a one goal home win over Sevilla from round of 8 in the UCL.

This reminds me of all the comparisons of how LCFC winning the EPL translates to an American sports outcome.

To me firing him now is analogous to the Cubs firing Joe Madden for saying like too many times during his speech at Cubs convention.

There's some smoke that the Sounders might be about to sign Honda from Milan. If that happens, it appears that Lagerway just wants to throw a band of 3 of whatever the best attacking talent is that he can find and leave the positions to chance. Morris/Dempsey/Lodeiro/Honda with Bruin/Shipp/Fernandez as depth seems really really good for MLS.

Haven't watched him in a few years, but I always thought Honda and Deuce were very similar style-wise back in the day. Dempsey's move inside has kept him valuable, but I'm not sure if Honda still has the legs to play out wide. I'm not saying he doesn't. I have no idea.

That said, this Sounders team is stacked and if Marshall, Alonso, and Torres stay healthy, they could be an all-time good MLS team.

Has anyone looked into aging curves for guys like Honda who end up not getting much run for years at a time without major injury like he has the last few years? It's a bit of a unique to soccer topic.

In either case, it looks now like it's more likely to be a summer move, which to my dummy's understanding of MLS salary cap rules is much better for Seattle(also Honda is out of contract then). Also means someone else could be the target by then.

I don't know what it means in terms of MLS's byzantine salary cap, but I do know that European DP's that come in the summer, usually need an additional MLS offseason to get their bearings, as Deuce himself did in Seattle. Not sure if that applies to someone who hasn't exactly been wearing his legs out like Honda, but historically (anecdotally) that's been the case.

The salary cap benefit(again, as I see it explained and not based on any knowledge I have) is that Alonso is technically the 3rd DP on the roster since his salary is high enough(1.x million I believe). By adding a DP midseason, the cost to buy down Alonso with TAM(or whichever funny money acronym it is) is halved because you're only doing so for the remainder of the season. It's been unclear whether Seattle was even able/willing to add a DP for the full season because of that cost since no one has known how much TAM a team has.

HUGE win for the USMNT program today, as the U20 team defeated Mexico 1-0 in the qualification round at the CONCACAF championships in Costa Rica.

The USMNT began the tournament by losing 1-0 to 10 man Panama, wHicham forced them to win two straight just to make the qualification round. The top 4 teams overall qualify for the U20 World Cup, so the US still needed to beat either Mexico or El Salvador to be sure to qualify. They now play El Salvador in 4 days with a result of any kind putting them into the final.

To give an idea how rare this result is, that was the first goal Mexico conceded all tournament, and their first CONCACAF loss since 2009. It's the first US U20 victory over Mexico in 31 years.

Ramos moving Erik Palmer Brown up into D mid was interesting, because their midfield was getting out played on the ground all tourney and then they do a complete 180 against the best possession/passing midfield in the tournament.

He's definitely a CB and I'm not advocating for a position change but it was a ballsy call from Ramos that paid off.

Would be too bad if Juventus can't keep dybala.

I think they are the best team in the world right now and don't see another club knocking them out of the UCL.

Selling Pogba and buying Higuain and Pjanic has worked well.

I get why Zlatan was ticked off but him claiming Mings jumped into his elbow was an excuse on the same level as Suarez saying didn't bite the Italian dude at the World Cup but rather he was off balance and fell into the guy's shoulder.

Sorry Zlatan, you sized him up and drilled him with your elbow. Enjoy your 3+ games off.

That was some game.

In the under card, Pulisic scored his first UCL goal and got 2 assists as Dortmund overcame a 1-0 deficit to win their tie.

All American firsts in UCL quarter final history.

I like Pulisic's spazzy, bad LeBron celebration.

Reffing shenanigans or was that Barca comeback legit?

That was Man city/qpr level

Watching the highlights, and reading the stories, there was one foul call that you could argue the Barca player went down pretty easy, and it led to a free kick goal, but it was a helluva shot...pretty tough to blame the refs for much in that game. But I didn't watch it live.
