Last time we lost to a non-Mexico CONCACAF team by 4 goals? 1984 vs. Guatemala. Lost to Mexico 5-0 in the 2009 Gold Cup final but wiki says that was right after the Confed Cup and we sent a second tier squad. Previous 4+ goal loss to a CONCACAF team was 1993 Gold Cup to Mexico.

-didn't have his entire team back defending in its own half in the last few seconds against Portugal in the World Cup, allowing them to score a tying goal that could have cost us second place in the group.

Sorry, still not over that one.

I will be extremely surprised if Gulati does the smart thing and fires him.

I'll be extremely surprised if someone fires Gulati's ass too. House needs to be cleaned.

I do get the idea that the USMNT isnt completely screwed because the hex is super forgiving, but aside from being clowned by Mexico and Costa Rica, Panama already has 4 points from drawing Mexico and winning in Honduras, so I am starting to wonder how Uzbekistan is in November.

I thought Gulati has an elected position? Or am I misremembering?

What just kills me is when I think about the context that Bob Bradley was fired in (we lose in R16 AET against Ghana because our players couldn't finish chances, we lose a GC final against Mexico 4-2 in a game where our starting RB goes out hurt and we hit a crossbar that would have made it 3-3 with 20 to play), and compare that to Jurgen's tenure:

-Lose in R16 AET to Belgium because we didn't finish chances (Wondo, Clint), and blew a lead with less than a minute against Portugal on a counter

-Lose a GC semifinal against Jamaica in what was one of the worst performances in memory to that point.

-Lose a CCAF playoff against Mexico 3-2 in a game where you got outplayed and had a player quit on you late

-Have your entire team play like they didn't care about anything 3 days later

-Lose 2-1 at home to Mexico because you spent the first 25 minutes of the game in a formation you chose not to try during the useless friendlies prior.

-Lose 4-0 against a CRC that not only isn't all that great, but spent the majority of the game in 2nd gear!

-Oh, also, you failed to qualify for the Olympics twice.

How is the former a fireable offense when you compare it to the tire fire of failure that is the latter?

It's elected. Nobody serious has run against him in years; that should probably change. Dan Flynn could, in theory, ask Sunil to step down, but I don't think that would happen.

In 2014, 3rd had 15 points and 4th had 11.

In 2010 it was 16 for both.

In 2006 it was 16 and 13.

In 2002 it was 17 and 14

So probably going to need at least 15 to get 3rd. They're already maxed at 24 points and realistically, it's 21 since we'll lose in Mexico. 5-1-1 in the other seven is certainly doable but there's not much room for error any more.

http://www.espnfc.us/team/united-states/660/blog/post/2997488/us-needs-to-replace-jurgen-klinsmann-after-costa-rica-humiliation-but-will-it

Along the way have been a rash of questionable personnel decisions and flawed tactical plans, none bigger than last Friday's ill-advised decision to take the field against Mexico with what Klinsmann called a 3-4-3 formation.

That experiment ended when Klinsmann was confronted by Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones during a stoppage, though Bradley insisted afterward that it was a group decision. When defeat followed, Klinsmann persisted with an old habit: blaming the players -- in this case Bradley and Jones -- for the formation's failure instead of taking any responsibility himself. That is an act that can't possibly go over well in the locker room.

Get fucked, Jurgen.
