I'm OK with this. We knew if Gase proved he was worth keeping with the Bears that he would be gone after a year anyway. Loggains provides some continuity, which is key and he does have OC experience.

That was the same argument for Tice, sans the OC experience for Loggains which I don't find all that comforting.

I want them to hire the best guy, not just the guy who is already here.

LOL. The OC experience is actually a big deal, compared to a meatball OL coach like Tice.

I don't understand your point. He only has OC experience because the Bears were dumb enough to give it to him. And there's a huge difference between a career OL coach and a career QB coach.

My biggest issue with him is that he looks like he could replace Kevin James in a Paul Blart 3: Mall Cop movie.

Also the cumulative effect sucks. Loggains may be a good OC, but now we have a hole at QB coach. The good thing is Groh actually was a QB and has OC and QB coach experience, so they can actually keep a lot of continuity there if they go that route ... just need a new WR coach.

My point is I want to hire somebody who actually has a good resume and not just promote a guy we already have for the sake of "continuity"

Tice was OC in MN too

loggains will probably be fine as OC.

Based on what?

Are you sure? I thought he went from OL to HC when somebody got fired.[/quote

He's not sure, because it's not true. He was a head coach. Never an OC.

Guessing he's referring to when Tice took over the play calling

yeah, usually when I'm underwhelmed with a hire, it turns out to be underwhelming. like when they promoted tice or hired trestman.

Fox did promote Gase internally from QB coach to offensive coordinator in Denver despite Gase having no OC experience. Hopefully Fox has a good eye for coaches.

I read somewhere that Cutler hand-picked Loggains himself to be his QB coach, and a lot are saying he deserved more credit for Jay's turnaround than Gase did.

Now, none of that means he can be a competent OC, his first go-around in Tennessee was pretty bad. But I think I'm willing to give him another crack since it was Tennessee and very few coaches would have had success with the cast of players they had in 2012-13.

Also, Fox said pretty soon after the season ended that Cutler (and the rest of the offense) wouldn't be learning a new offense/system other than a few tweaks. Whisenhunt was never going to come here and run someone else's system. It was going to be Loggains the entire time.

Big fan of promoting a guy Cutler already loves/trusts. Jay, Jeffery, and White are better than anything he had to work with in Tennessee, so we'll see. Not a sexy hire, but a pretty safe one in that I trust him to keep Jay playing the smart football he played this year.

For those who are fine/OK with this, would you have been OK with it if we hired Dowell Loggains and he wasn't already a member of our staff? Or if we hired him last year?

I'm just trying to figure out how much of it for you is the continuity factor.
