Gordo says the Tampa stuff seems to be coming from their side.....

The thing I kept pondering the whole day, when I wasn't busy, was this - this makes a lot of sense for the Cubs (one-stop shopping, SP/RP ... and perhaps even CF if they throw Jennings into the mix ... ta da ... offseason's done) ... but outside of Baez, I can't figure out what completes a deal to make the Rays want to pull the trigger. And leaving aside some extreme homerism from Cubs fans on the other boards (at least, based on what I saw at DRaysBay that other Cubs fans supposedly posted), it's either

a) Going to take something more to pry loose an Odorizzi, and heck, perhaps even a Smyly to go along with a pen arm

b) the Cubs are going to take a gamble (namely, something like Cobb), and I'm not sure a gamble on Cobb makes a lot of sense for a Cubs squad looking for a bit more certainty than that

Of course, it could very well be that the talent of Baez is enough to sway ... uh ... who's the GM? Silverman? ... but they aren't exactly in a "We absolutely need to add an infielder" stage (Forsythe/Miller/Longoria seems like a decent 2nd/SS/3rd grouping, and positional pieces haven't fallen in FA yet), so it's hard to see them selling low on their pitching. It feels like a situation where the Rays assessed that the pitching market was strong and were looking to take advantage of their assets to flip for impact returns, thinking teams would probably prefer some of their arms over the cost of some of the FA's on the board.

Dunno, going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

Excellent, if we are doing a trade with them for a SP he's my preferred target (I don't think Archer or even Snell are realistic options for various reasons).

as much as I like Odorizzi, I don't give up Javy for him in a straight up trade.

I think it's pretty fair value for Javy as of right now, if not us getting the better end. If McGee is also involved and Javy is the main piece I think that's incredible value for Javy with where he is at right now. I still think we'd have to include another good piece with Javy to get both, like Edwards, PJ, McKinney.

Odorizzi and McGee tho?

If we have to make a move so that Hammel's salary can be moved in order to sign Heyward? Okay, then I get it.

But if we're not moving one of those guys and we end up with either Hendricks going to Iowa or Hammel going to the pen? Then I'm not sure it improves the team enough to lose Javy. I wouldn't be pissed or anything, but I wouldn't be jumping for joy.

Objectively speaking, what you say is true. But I still have faith in Javy justifying his previous ranking as a top 5 prospect in baseball.

I'd like him more if he threw harder.

His average FB velocity jumped by 1 MPH last year (to 91.3) and he maxed his FB at 94 MPH and his cutter at 90. At 25-26 I doubt he's ever adding a lot more velocity but he clearly is capable of reaching low-mid 90s, so maybe as he reaches his physical peak he is able to maintain more velocity and get his average FB velocity to the 92 MPH range (not necessarily adding MPH to the top end but consistently throwing harder).

I like Jennings as part of a multi-headed CF with Parra or Span, but I'm also not sure DiCaro is truly implying 'Cubs talking to Rays' + 'Cubs talking CF trade options' = 'Cubs talking about trading for Jennings'.

I like her, but she can be very unclear about stuff.

Desmond Jennings involved, maybe?

No thank you.

With the talk about trading Soler, I wonder if Heyward wants to stay in RF.

I'm guessing thats the thought process, though I wouldn't want to give up too much for a defensive CF. If he is a part of a bigger trade with Tampa then so be it. How bad was the knee injury that cost him his season last year? He is cheap I guess too.

I mean I guess it's ambiguous, but to me the two tweets read like separate thoughts. Otherwise it makes too much sense to either mention CF in the first tweet or Rays in the 2nd.
