Because every fan base thinks the committee is out to get them

Because the committee doesn't give a [expletive] about quality of loss (see 2014 Ohio State; I don't think the way ND lost is really a factor in their current ranking no matter what they say). And conference championships is a written criterion in the committee rules - Oklahoma would have one if they win out.

Last year OSU got in after a double digit loss at home to a bowl less Va Tech team in favor of a TCU team whose only loss was by 3 on the road to the #5 team

 

Neither team plays a conference title game so their last impression would be on the road against a potential undefeated team or on the road against a good team but one that lost to Northwestern and Oregon

Because our best wins will be @Baylor, TCU, and @OKSt if that happens. ND can't match all three of those.
