Zone has been significantly better today. Ball 1 to Bryant would have been a strike for Lackey.

@jaysonst: That Arrieta start has definitely hung over this game. It felt like a must-win game for the Cardinals, even up 1-0 https://t.co/nM3DOkZIq3

I don't really get why it would be a "must win" game for them.

Even if the Cardinals were to lose tonight and Monday, it is still completely within the realm of possibility for them to win games 4 and 5.

We could maybe have Lester on Game 5, right?

I would think that would be almost definite. I doubt they throw him game 4.

Yeah. We've hit Lynn well but we don't even know who we're starting in Game 4 and Lackey would pitch Game 5. It's not like we'll have Jake starting Game 5.

I just figured it was a given they'd go with Lester, especially if they're up 2-1.

Kris Bryant is going full April-July Starlin

With the minor difference that it's been less than 3 games, those coming off a 6.5 win season. But yeah, he's a dog or something.

Waiting for abuck to tell us how Matheny is managing circles around Maddon today.

Weird how you were all but silent for a while until something to annoyingly "complain" about comes up.

At this point it has to be Lackey. However, I'm pretty sure he will wait until the day of the game to let the world know.

He kind of started slumping before the Cincy series. Granted he's much better at home so hopefully it changes Monday.

But then who goes 5? Hendricks on normal rest, I guess. So is the dropoff from Hendricks to a Hammel/Cahill/Wood/whatever game enough to offset Lester being on normal rest vs. short rest.

Slightly off topic but how cool is it that if I can be bothered to put on the Bulls game tonight, within 24 hours I will have watched all 4 of my Chicago teams play games (with the bears game at noon Sunday)

With a 2-1 Cubs lead, they'd go Lackey in 4 on short rest. As pitiful as we've been with him, I'd be OK with short as [expletive] leash Hammel/bullpen game. They've got nobody for Lester and game 5, if we lost it.

There's the dinky Cardinals hit.

AKA a regular, plain ol' single.

I thought he turned the game off?

Unfortunately that didn't happen.
