Cards lost to Brewers today, so really in our best interests to let the Pirates win this one.

Why is that in our best interests

It's not.

I don't want to lose but the argument is (at least as I understand it) if the Pirates and Cardinals tie they will likely burn their best starters going for the division. But I'm on the "we need to play the Pirates in a 1 game vs 5 game" bandwagon. Plus I'm not able to cheer against my teams even if it's in their best interests. I've tried but I can't.

more proof that Mercer's arm is super noodly, he can't throw out Castro on a slow roller

I really hope the OF is Schwarber-Fowler-Coghlan in the WC game.

I never thought I would agree with this but I do.

I understand the logic. But getting swept by a team you are going to see in the playoffs in 2 weeks isn't ideal in any scenario. If the Cards end the season 1 game better than the Pirates, the whole "why didn't we just throw that Sunday night game?" won't cross my mind. The Cubs will still have one of the best 3 pitchers on the planet Earth throwing in that game.

I hope we leave Soler off the playoff roster.

I think he'll be in the wildcard game, but IDK about NLDS. If it's the Cards, they'll be no LH starters to deal with. There's a couple of LH relievers, but you'd have Jackson and potentially Baez and Denorfia who may all be better options in a pinch hit situation, and are all much better defenders.

Even though he's well over his career high in innings, Arrieta certainly hasn't lost any velocity. In fact, it's increased as the season has gone on. As good as he was last year, it did dip a little bit later in the year. Great to see.

Hey guys. You may remember me from this past off season. I'll be at tonight's game and tomorrow night's game. Anybody here grabbing a beer before the game?

howdy!

I don't think the Cubs getting swept this series would have any effect on their confidence to beat the Pirates in a 1 game playoff. It's not like we haven't proven we can beat them. But again I'm not sure why I'm arguing for a side I'm not on.

One final thing is that a) if it was the cardinals I am not scared of any of their starters so the benefit isn't big and b) personally facing Liriano is almost as scary of a situation as facing Cole for me
