I think it is just bad luck that the three guys with no ability to just make contact with one out or get a hit with 2 have batted literally every time the past week. If this evens out in a couple week great. If not, I don't care how good Jake is, you have to score. Without Arrieta's homer it is a one run game.

And we're back to forgetting how to get clutch hits.

Back? They're, like, last or almost dead last when it comes to getting a guy in from 3B with less than 2 outs.

Someone respectable posted that a week or two ago; something like 42%.

Contact tool does not equal hit tool.

i thought that's exactly what it was

Albert Almora and Kris Bryant are living proof that they are different things.

Not just that, but getting big HITS with multiple runners on base. It happened a ton in August when we were scoring runs in bunches, and the past few weeks, not so much.

I don't give a [expletive] about that; that's going to fluctuate all the time. The bigger problem is stranding what are basically gimme runs, and they were doing that at an above average rate even when they've been scoring runs in bunches.

and a big part of it is that we strike out a lot, which is a byproduct of our power and our plate approach, both of which have a lot to do with how many runs we've been scoring for the past two months.

we've been scoring lots of runs. why is does it matter how we do in a specific situation?

i don't think hit tool necessarily has anything to do with being good.

Yeah, that's annoying too. I asked this a few weeks back, and no one responded, but is it that hard for a big league hitter to learn how to swing for contact in those situations, or would that mess up the rest of their approach?
