As awesome as Maddon's comments are, I really wish they hadn't hit any of the Cardinals at all today. Their team and their fans have a persecution complex that puts Kim Davis to shame and I don't want to see that fed.

I do. It is overbearing when they are winning, but oh so delicious when we are concurrently donging them to death.

Oh, I have no problem with them rubbing it in their faces. Steal bases and bunt for hits when you've got a big lead late, pitch 'em inside, get all pumped up and show it on the field; but actually hitting them with the current narrative is just a tad annoying. I seriously doubt any of them were intentional, but I just hate that they can go, "SEE?!? Nobody's as our classy team made up of jerks that smell bad!" Give them nothing but shame and regret.

Well none of the HBP were intentional, the only one that remotely could have been intentional was Rodney, which makes little sense because 1) why Wong and 2) Rodney can be wild (3 HBP now in 9 IP). It is amusing to see how this gets couched as a 'beanball war' when there's been one intentional HBP in the entire series and every word from the Cubs is 'we don't throw at people, throwing at people is for cowards'

actually 1) is "there were two strikes" and there doesn't need to be any after that

Was listening on the radio; first time seeing it. Even more glorious than Pat made it out to be.

But serious question; had we lost after Rondon's [expletive] ejection, would we have been able to put it under protest? Maybe it looked more intentional than Pat made it out to be, but as he said, even when under a warning, the umps need to excercise common sense. Because if the Cubs were going for a 9th inning revenge plunking, it sure as hell wouldn't have been on some guy named Greg Garcia with the top of the Cardinals lineup coming up behind him.

They hit three guys and had a warning. There's very little the umps can do at that point.

pretty much. rondon didn't hit him on purpose but with all the comments the night before and already two batters plunked, it's not much they can do there.

That pitch was almost a strike. I bet he leaned into it on purpose to get Rondon thrown out. Notice how Matheny immediately came running out of the dugout? Just like in basketball using a flop to deke the ref into calling a 5th foul on a guy you want out of the game. As much as I despise the Cardinals, that took chutzpah and it almost worked.
