Following a satisfying doubleheader sweep, the Cubs send this man to the mound, coming off a very Shawn Estes-like performance against the Cardinals last time out:

The Phillies counter with yet another guy most people have never heard of. Also, he spells his named "Jerad," so that should piss off a lot of people here:

Haren's fly ball tendencies in Citizen's Bank Park could be worrisome, but I trust our dongsmen can overcome. 9-6 Cubs.

I understand what you're saying, but you can't have kiddie porn without actual victims.

Step 1: Sweep the double header, Cardinals lose. Arrieta and Hendricks v. Morgan and Asher is a good start. Lackey has lost both his starts against Cincinnati, so hopefully that continues. This cuts 1.5 games off the lead

Edited to make clear it was 2003, the San Juan game, stupid typo I put 20013.

I will most likely be at this one, assuming it is not rained out. Go Cubs.

I am strongly considering it. It's about 45 minutes down I95 to the park for me. Any suggestions on tickets? Do you just buy through Stub Hub? I have not attended a Cubs game since that weird weird game against the Expos in San Juan, back in September 2003, when Clement was pitching and they lost on a weird popup that fell between three guys in Left Field.

id imagine you can buy them right from the phillies

they [expletive] suck and even the night game last night appeared sparsely attended

then again, stubhub might have some good below face deals. not sure if it's past their deadline yet with only 6 hrs left.

EDIT -

looks like you can still buy some pretty cheaply on stubhub

not sure if that's below face or not but i'd assume so, especially this late in the game

Those Terrace 322 seats for $25 look like a great deal.

EDIT: there's 319 seats for $20 too

It's not my fault you're a deranged sociopath.

The Pirates have overtaken the Royals, and now the Cubs are a game away from having the third best record in MLB, while also being third in their division. I'm willing to bet that would be a first in the 6-division format.

In 2008 I bought a batch of tickets from the Phillies for the CUBS series in April there. Took CT, CubmanPi, Yeti, and others to the games. Zambrano lost on Friday, Lilly lost on Saturday, and we finally pulled one out in the 10th inning on Sunday when Jason Marquis faced Jamie Moyer. I still blame CT for the CUBS poor showing. Pictures were posted in this forum.

I still get an email every year in the early spring from the Phillies letting me know that tickets are on sale and inviting me to buy some. Like a true CUBS fan, I can say.... wait 'til next year !!!

Carlos Zambrano through a curveball (edit: actually, probably a splitter or something) that day that broke up almost above the batter's head and then ended up as a low strike. It was the weirdest pitch I've ever seen, so weird that I vividly remember it 12 years later. That doesn't really pertain to the discussion, nor is it important at all, but you bringing up that game brought the memory up in my head.

my favorite part of that thread was seeing redflash bitching about how the 2008 cubs were just falling into the "cub tradition" of playing just above mediocrity to tease fans

i also had forgotten how bad lilly started 08

also from that thread, omg hahahaha

I'm amazed that some of you actually believe the Cubs are good. The Cubs are not a good team. Good teams do not have guys like Soriano leading off, Theriot playing SS, Pie in center, Lilly as a #2. Soriano has an OBP of .230 & does not steal bases anymore. He literally swings at everything. He does not know the strikezone any better then my 5 yr old. He is a mental midget when it comes to the plate. A good GM would have known that Lilly overachieved last year in his first yr in the NL. Instead, he assumed he'd be the same. Instead of getting Roberts early when he had the chance, he didn't pull the trigger & the cost went up. When it finally dawned on him that Roberts is exactly what the offense needed at the top, he focused so hard on it that he did not pursue Dan Haren or an upgrade at SS. Jim Hendry is the problem. He's the one that paid Jim Marquis all that money as well as all of the Dusty rejects. He misread Corey Patterson & kept counting on Prior when the writing was on the wall. This team may very well win the NL Central but that's lke being named the pork queen at the county fair.
