CUBS are 74-55 (.574) when they draw 1 or more walks.... 3-2 (.600) when they don't

Go CUBS !!

Don't know if that number is above/below league average, but I love the fact that the Cubs have only had 5 games all year where they did not take at least one walk. Seems like that number used to be significantly higher in the past.. but that just could be my personal bias against the ol' Cubs way of swing hard and swing often.

Is Javy using one of Soler's bats? there's a 68 on the end of it.

Nah.... it's a 68 ounce bat. ;)

That would help explain all the Ks certainly.

Yeah, I'm done with Coghlan in the 3 hole. At least 1 of the 2 best players on the team need to be assured of batting in the 1st inning in every single game. Fred showed the record when the Cub score in the 1st. Probably similar around the league. The best way to score in the 1st is to make sure Rizzo and/or Bryant bat in the 1st.

When your first two batters fail to get on base, you limit your opportunity to score down to 1 possibility. Maybe the answer lies in the selection of the first two batters rather than the the third ??

Fowler is fine as the 1st batter. Coghlan is in the group that should be in the running to hit 2nd. But with Rizzo and Bryant 3rd, your chances of scoring in the 1st are greater because whoever hits 3rd is going to be on base (or score on a solo HR) and bring the other to bat at least 37% of the time.

It's quite possible that the number seems higher because over the years when I was doing the "worthless stats of the day" schtick before the game, I always showed the stat when the CUBS drew 2 or more BBs. So that would make the back end 0 or 1 BBs. Just a thought. That being said, this current CUBS team is clearly drawing more BBs than any recent team.... say over the last 10 years or so.

There's the obligatory Castillo RBI hit. Hopefully that's the last one. I'm sure he would've been good for a 6-4-3 there in a Cubs uni. Edited by Rondon Fan

Didn't he have a daughter with some medical problems? Vision issues maybe? Anybody know if she's doing well?
