Batters with as good of an eye as Goldschmidt both impress and infuriate me when they play the Cubs.

Way behind on MLBTV, but there is nothing better than having the last out ruined with the Cubs Win post.

So, if he can incorporate that change-up into his repertoire more, he's basically impossible to beat, right?

It was flat out filth.

What would you offer in an extension as of now? Maybe $30 for the two arb years, plus 4 years at 30 per? That's 6/150 for a guy 2 years away from FA and it would take him through his age 35 season, but I doubt Boras would take it.

I'm in no rush to extend him

As much as I love Jake.....Why bother? He's got next year where he'll be making 10 or so and 1 more arb year after that....Too much can happen between now and then to go more than year to year on.....

Why bother? You at least consider bothering because he's arguably the best pitcher in baseball, and you might believe the mileage is more important than the age. If you take the year to year approach, you're basically acknowledging he's gone after 2 seasons. Maybe that's the right way to approach it if you really believe big dollars for FA pitchers are a bad idea, but if you believe Jake could be the exception you have to try and preempt his free agency.

Letting him get to FA isn't an acknowledgement that he's gone. And I personally can't think of a single pitcher that its a good idea to pay 30 mill a season to for his age 32-35 seasons 2 seasons in advance of needing to do so.

Right now the Cubs look to have Arrieta's pitching for pretty damn cheap for the next couple of years. But was Deeg presupposes is...what if they DON'T?

If he incorporates the changeup into his repertoire, then his arsenal becomes fastball, changeup, curve, cutter, and slider? Good lord.

I missed the game today, was out golfing, he was/is throwing a [expletive] changeup now? Good god

Yep. The one he threw to Goldschmidt to K him the first time was just ridiculous. I thought it was a sinker or splitter until Len and JD called it a change when they did a slo mo of his grip. It was 91 mph and just disappeared in the last few feet before it hit the catcher's glove. Goldschmidt kind of gave a WTF look after he swung and missed.
