is that gun running hot or was sale legitimately sitting 97-99 that inning?

It had Haren in mid 80s so it was likely legit

Sales slurve breaks in so that its still 3 inches off the plate & as it was crossing the plate it was a foot outside but its somehow a called strike.

Maybe just maybe all the emphasis on showing the strike zone on broadcasts will cause angroundswell for robot umps. At least for balls and strikes

Just by the eye test it looks like Sale is throwing Rondon type heat.

the strike zone today has been terrible... oh wait, that's every day

I legitimately can't decide whether umpires have always been this inconsistent and we are just more aware of it now due the amount of information (Pitch Trax, etc.) that is available to us. Or are umpires truly calling games more inconsistently now than they have in the past?

yeesh.

with some pitchers, they consistently do really well and when you watch their stuff, you can't figure out how they're so good. with sale it is not hard to understand why he is so awesome.

They were even worse in the past. Totally made up zones in the old days was considered apart of an umpire's personality..

I made a comment at the beginning of the season that umpiring was really good last season. I think many agreed.

Umps were worse in the past, but now we are simply seeing that they can't be good even if they want to.

Yes, I remember that, but the problem with the zone now is more the inconsistency than the zone itself. If a guy is consistently calling the same pitch outside the zone, that isn't ideal, but at least players know what to expect. This year the strike zone seemingly changes from one batter to the next.

How can we have these people sterilized?
