I was perfectly happy with how the Cubs approached the trade deadline considering what was being asked for and what was on offer

I can't remember what they might've used in 08 and it doesn't look to be on YouTube.

They're for sure more aggressive if the division was actually in sight but what they did was perfect for fighting for a Wild Card. Go out and try for the division next year.

The raving gibberish of a delusional madman. Especially the bold.

Remember when people didn't want to "go for it" at the trade deadline because the Cubs wouldn't be able to catch the Giants?

I was ok with them not making a big trade and I thought we had enough to catch the Giants and maybe even the Pirates. It was a matter of our stud hitting prospexts starting to hit. But I understand both sides: not trading away young cost controlled players for a rental in a season where your best case scenario is a 50/50 game to get into the DS. But I also understand the "you can't just assume you will be here again" philosophy also.

It wasn't that they couldn't catch the Giants. It's that they're fighting for a one game fluke as opposed to being guaranteed 3 games in a division series. There's a big reason why the Astros went all out at the deadline and the Cubs kept it low-key.

You said the exact opposite literally a week ago.

You guys can spin it however you want, there's a World Series on the line and we got a starting pitcher who might not even be better than Clayton Richard.

The 5th starter really doesn't matter. Remember Shawn Estes in 2003?

The 5th starter DOES matter when your team is fighting to make the playoffs.

Yeah I mean in the grand scheme of things it's nearly impossible for them to catch the Cardjnals so you're jockeying for home in the wild card round. I suppose they coulda gone all out for Price to get another TOR rental for the playoffs but vOv

They're gonna make the playoffs and hopefully add to the team in coming years and continue to make the playoffs

He does in the regular season. Wtf?

In fact it's the easiest place aside from Castro to add wins as we're barely replacement level.

That's one of the most egregious examples of revisionist history the board has ever seen. They were and are jockeying for being in the WC round or watching from home.

There wasn't much player position wise they could go for other than benching a developing player for someone which I didn't think was in question. They needed struggling players to get off the hump, which is what appears to be happening. vOv

At the time I was like "Ben Zobrist would be nice" and didn't really see what else they could really do

I for sure thought the Cubs wouldn't make the playoffs and that they'd lose out to the Giants. I am for sure happy that right now I'm wrong. That said, I feel sort of like people are overreacting to this goodness the same way some overreact to the not so goodness.

It is possible this is just a really good stretch of baseball -- every single team has one at some point -- but I hope to continue to be wrong all the way to a World Series championship.

Also, I can't tell if people are being sarcastic or not, but does everyone really think Kris Bryant sucks? I'm disturbed by the Kris Bryant sucks thread in the general discussion, but I still don't know if people are just joking. For the record, I think he's really, really good.

We are literally talking right now about getting a better starting pitcher.

Yes, a lot of people thought he sucked when sucked, which was up until about a week ago. He really sucked for a while. It happens.

Oh, yeah. I agree he sucked. But I couldn't tell (can't tell, still) if people think he is going to stay suck for good or if he was just being a rookie.
