The Cubs are 50-20 this year when they score at least 3 runs.

Not sure what's more impressive..that or the fact that they've won 10 games where they scored 1 or 2 runs

8/2 was my 21st birthday. I got a Rizzo autographed baseball that I've taken out of the case and given a quick good luck kiss before each game since. Clearly my ritual is responsible for the influx of runs, sooooo...

On an iPad so I can't post it, but today's lineup is probably the strongest they've fielded all year.

This is Maddon's 79th unique lineup in 109 games.

CUBS are 3-3 (.500) when Russell starts at ss

No doubt about it. Like to see Baez eventually be a part of it, especially against lefties, and defensively it's definitely a worry even with Russell at SS where he belongs. But this is the best we can do right now for sure.

Hopefully this lineup can hit Cain enough so it won't matter, but I'd like to see a conventional infield alignment when Hendricks pitches. If Coghlan plays infield behind strikeout or fly ball pitchers like Lester, Arrieta, and Haren, fine. But Hendricks? This is asking for trouble.

I've made the term "dong" so commonplace between my friends and I that I forget when normal people hear you say it without smirking they give you very weird looks.

At this point Rizzo is completely referred to as The Donger and Bryant is The Dongsman.

Hendricks gives up about the same amount of ground balls as Lester and Arrieta. And he strikes out a respectable 7.56/9 ip.

That's the lineup the rest of the way except sub in good Baez.

Coghlan has had his ups and downs, but how likely do you think Baez is to outperform him if he's called up?

Or: if Baez comes up and is horrible at the plate again but provides much better defense than Coghlan at 2B, is it worth the switch?

Depends how brutal Coghlan is at 2B long term.
