People still make fun of Jordan for the gambling crap, for Christ's sake. Congratulations on somehow avoiding it it, but people love to make fun of Kobe, including over the CO [expletive].

This reeks of people who are just desperately trying to convince themselves Kane is going to be able to duck this. This isn't 2003, kids; he's royally fucked. This is a different climate for this sort of thing to go down; there's a lot more scrutiny when it comes to sexual assault accusations and things like domestic abuse. The leagues all still have a long way to go, but we're well past the point where this would just be swept away. Hell, Kane's own previous indiscretions weren't forgotten before this popped up.

Isn't it pretty clear that he had intercourse and the only question whether it was consensual?

He's not going to get off free no matter if he gets charged or not.

how did the drew doughty situation play out?

At least we can agree that Kobe raping that woman has not stopped him from being one of the highest paid product endoursers in the world because that's a fact.

also they forgot to the extent that he has been the cover of video games since the incident.

If that happened to Kobe today things would have gone VERY differently. You can't keep acting like a the larger context of when these events occurred is the same. There's infinitely more scrutiny on this type of thing, and on the lives of celebrities/sports stars in general.

I'll bet you good money that if Kane walks away from with this with anything less than complete exoneration he'll never be on the cover of another video game again (like that even matters when we're talking about something awful).

It matters in the context of the extent of people's "memories" of these things.

I do agree that Kobe would not have recovered to the extent that he has if it went down in 2015.

I just suspect that sometime soon Kane will come out with a pretty effective and robust denial. And some people will come out supporting him, say friends that were there will support him, people will attack the accusers credibility etc. her tox report will leaked.

The buffalo police will not charge him. And that will kinda be it. He will be somewhat tarnished, but he's already viewed (in Chicago) as a creep. Half way through next season people (on the aggregate) won't think much of it.

Typically, when people are being falsely accused, they come out immediately saying so. Kane has been quiet for a reason.

this is a really weird post from you.

what?

Marshawn Lynch, for example...although he didn't come out with a statement, the Seahawks sure did almost immediately last year, saying that the woman that accused him of assault last year was "bogus". Turns out she was, and she was charged.

It's a different scenario...not rape or sexual in nature, but my point simply is that if Kane knew this accusation was completely BS, him, or his lawyer, or someone would be coming out and loudly saying so.

He's maintained top 3-5 in jersey sales and as of 2014 had 30M+ in endorsements.

It's either been forgotten, forgave, or willfully ignored.

He also lost a lot of those endorsements before gaining them back. It's over a decade later. It is two entirely different subjects to talk about how will he be welcomed upon his return and how will the world view him in 12 years.

Nobody forgot Kobe raped a woman, it's just some assholes celebrate that fact. The world is full of assholes and that is why things like MMA exist.

well, iirc, Lynch could verify that he was somewhere else at the time, and the woman thought some other guy was him. Kind of a different situation.

....Yes....That's my point. Guys that didn't do it typically let it be known, through one means or another, that the charges are false. Kane has done nothing of the sort, other than the one bar owner saying some dumb crap.

If there's confusion, I'm saying that Kane is probably guilty of something, because there's been no one speaking up for him, defending him publicly.

if you can't positively ID a gun or knife used, don't have witnesses, tearing, restraint bruising, or rohypnol in your system i have to think it's got to be really really hard to prove that someone raped you, unfortunately. i wouldn't even know how you'd go about establishing that.

that's ridiculous. plenty of guilty fools loudly proclaim their innocence and bash their victims.

there were reports of bite marks and there could very easily be witnesses, as another girl was there.

Well and we're already likewise seeing Kane suffer from endorsement losses.

Fwiw, Kobes jersey sales dropped down to 7 the year immediately after his rape, which actually is low in terms of him still being the best basketball player in the world at that point. But in terms of rape accusations... Fans were still overall pretty forgiving/forgetful/ignorant/apathetic/whatever.

As far as Kane goes, I'm not sure. With people generally more aware of these things 10 years later, he will likely still see quite a bit of backlash, but it won't likely last too long. We'll check back in 2017.

"no one from his camp has come out and proclaimed his innocence, therefore he is probably guilty."

that's nearly literally what banedon said. I am saying that that doesn't make sense because tons of guilty people make official statements proclaiming their innocence.
