So apparently, Ricketts is said in an interview today that the low point was in Aug. 2010, when the team was old, bad and had "one of the worst farm systems in the league."

BA ranked the Cubs 14th in 2010 and 16th in 2011. The myth of the Cubs farm system being historically, unbelievably awful in the late 00s' is never going away.

You still don't even understand what was horribly bad about the system after being told 20 times, so why start now, I suppose.

wait is this post from the Doubting Theo tumblr actually Kyle or not actually Kyle. I can't decide, but am leaning not actually Kyle. If not, it's a wonderful impersonation.

Kyle would spell heresy correctly.

That's me.

I stand corrected.

regardless, he has expressed that same sentiment before so whats the difference

Hahahaha

Actually the guy who runs the tublr included the note "He really wanted to be included, so …" which leads me to believe it IS Kyle

lmfao

that vlahos idiot has such a punchable face

He really does. And he has such an inflated self-confidence. A meatball that thinks everyone else is a meatball... shudder.

Let the record show this thread started with me posting Vlahos comments only to have Kyle show up and agree with them.

i'm satisfied with any team that either wins 90+ games or makes the playoffs. is that better?

OK.

Theo Epstein is currently on pace to make it 0-for-4 by that benchmark.

this one is fun to look at

It was factual.

1-for-4 now is looking a lot better. It certainly helps.

That's not technically true, but close enough to still be funny I guess.

Yes, more Jason Hammels, who we are pondering skipping for a bullpen game.

We've got our all-world mega-ace going in the WC game. How'd we get him again? By going huge on a free agent in the offseason, or by spreading it around on lots of pitching bets?

Cuz there's a lot of Arrieta's to be found out there.

The point here isn't 'don't add really good pitchers', but rather that pitching means next to nothing on paper. If they have the money I'd really like to see them spend on their favorite of Price/Zimmermann because of concerns about depth/durability, but if they decide that the best option with the available money is to ramp up the numbers instead, I'm probably not going to have a huge problem with that.

For the record:

Jordan Zimmerman 2015:

3.68 ERA / 3.77 FIP / 3.80 xFIP / 2.9 fWAR / 7.5 K9

Kyle Hendricks 2015:

4.09 ERA / 3.46 FIP / 3.33 xFIP / 3.1 fWAR / 8.2 K9

Witt the caveat that Zimmerman has had much better seasons in the past. But he scares me a little considering the Tommy John past and the Nats rumored to not want to bet on the elbow.

I will say that Zimmerman tends to go deeper in games than Hendricks, which has some value unaccounted for in those numbers. However....

13 of Zimmerman's 32 starts have been against the bottom 3 offenses in baseball. MIA/ATL/PHI and still his numbers have dipped dramatically from 2014. He has the aforementioned scary arm. He will turn 30 next May. I'd rather stay away.

Dunno where to put this but

Dan Haren Cubs version: 4.30 ERA 4.80 fip in 52.1 IP (10 GS)

Scott Kazmir Astros version: 3.91 ERA 4.91 fip in 69 IP (12 GS)

We weren't the best team in the division this year, and it wasn't close. I wouldn't take us in 2016 or 2017 against the field. So again I ask: Is the future *that* amazing?

I know this post is two months old now but come on. This isn't some great thought of genius here. Most people know you don't take any one team "against the field" in any sport. It's almost like you think you are "this great mind among the idiots" and throw out these little quips to somehow prove your point. Carry on, this is the first time reading this thread so sorry from bringing up old stuff.
