The Tigers are 3 games out of the playoffs, and the team they're chasing is the Twins.

Yeah, I don't quite understand the "seller" sentiment with them.

They were 10 (division) and 4 (WC) out at the beginning of the week, I think the sentiment came from if they have a bad 10ish day stretch leading up to the deadline where they lose ground they "could be" sellers and then the media just ran with they are sellers.

There's also 5 other teams within 5 games of the Twins, so they'll have to be plenty good to make up the deficit. I don't quite get it either(why start looking towards the future NOW after all they've done to mortgage it), but even just next year looks pretty rough so I could see them sacrificing a somewhat longshot this year to make future years more palatable.

Illitch is 100 years old and the coming years are going to be a lot more longshotty than this year. Giving up for what sounds like will be a mediocre return makes no sense to me.

Guess it depends on what they would get back. Although ultimately I have to think they're like several potential 'sellers' that are only interested in trading guys for big returns and would otherwise roll the dice with lower playoff odds. Cleveland, San Diego, and Texas also kinda fall in that line of thinking.

the Tigers have 1.5 MLB-caliber starters in their entire organization right now

i still suspect Ilitch overrides FO's better judgment because frankly, he's 86 and ill
