Why is it that a ball has to basically be bounced or thrown to the backstop to be called ball four on a 3-0 count? Why do umps double the size of the zone on that count?

Man, umpires are terrible. He wouldn't have even thought of calling that 3-0 pitch a strike if it was an 0-2 count. That's a frustrating AB for Coghlan. Should've walked and instead lined out.
