Next series we face Sale, Rodon and Quintana...I would be very happy with 2 out of 3

rodon has a 1.64 whip, quintana is giving up more than a hit per inning, and the white sox have one player with an ops over .712.

I have been saying this for a month now... Everyone loves to follow stats and say "the Cubs bullpen is good" sure..but they struggle really bad in clutch situations and have no one to turn to with consistency.

What's coming out here is "me angry, bullpen bad." But if what you're trying to say is that there's something to be said for having an everyday closer, I can't disagree with that.

I'll be OK with this split as long as everything is fine with Hammel. If he's out for an extended period we could be in deep trouble.

Strop should not be used in the 9th - stick with Motte and Rondon until you get Papelbon or try Soriano or something. I'd cut Richard - he's lucky he got to face the Marlins.

Finally, I'll take some solace that the Pirates AND cardinals can't both win for the next 4 days. I think the Pirates can catch them and having to play that WC game at Busch is the biggest fear of them all for me.

Damn. I took off and it was 4-2 so wasn't surprised when we lost 6-5. But then I went back and read the PBP.

Lots of shitty things but I'm randomly going to bitch at Castro twice striking out with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. He sucks :(

Add more fuel to the fire:

Justin Grimm

High leverage: .353 avg, .476 Obp

Low leverage: .180 avg, .220 Obp

97 guests. How are you guys?? Lol

Are the library computer labs open that late in St Louis?

If by library computer labs, you mean White Castles with I Phone 3s, then 24/7.

Trevor Rosenthal:

High leverage: .175, .270

Low: .180, .256

This is what a closer is - they are good in high leverage situations - the Cubs bullpen has no one ever remotely close to the Papelbon - who's available, and Rosenthal who is on a team that's dominating the league

Would like to see those low leverage/high leverage splits since May. The bullpen sucked the first month but has been incredible since.

Most closers are actually much worse in low-leverage situations. They excel with the pressure.

Am I going to have to be the guy to say most relievers numbers are probably notably worse in high leverage spots?

Wouldn't that also have to mean that most hitters are better in clutch situations?

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on whether or not the Cubs need a closer.

Sorry you can't be a closer, you didn't give up 4 runs when we threw you out there in a blowout last week.

I just get a good laugh out of all these gives who live off of stats that are easy to see - then I prove my point with very definitive evidence and it's like "well..umm.. Look at stats since May!" It's like - just bc you don't agree with what I have to say, don't be the guy who disagrees just to do it.

Damn. I feel like my magnificent new sig drove them to victory...and then when I had to bail before the end it all went kaput.

Ah well, cool with the split, plus I liked a lot of what I saw tonight.
