I'm less interested in what Castro needs than what the Cubs need. We're rapidly approaching the point where that may involve his removal from the lineup.

I'm more interested in giving him support if it improves his performance. Otherwise, this is major league baseball. No one should get any more rope than necessary. It's not like we're obligated to start Castro because he has a hypothetical Ryan Howard contract.

 

Yes, it's major league baseball, and slumping players like Castro typically don't get benched or sent down or whatever you possibly think should happen, especially when there isn't an appreciably better alternative available right now. If they're going to trade him, how them benching him help them?
