These sorts of things are the most harmless things in the world and kind of fun, but there's this subsection of Cubs fans that seemingly hates them with a scorching hot(take) passion.

yeah, I've never understood it. It's entertainment at the very least. And who knows, he could be 100% right and the trade could fall apart last minute. It's just fun to speculate and see if anything materializes.

Exactly. Seems like most of this who lash out are the doom boners who gripe about everything negative that happens to the team and just assume nothing good will ever happen. Surprised they didn't work in something about the Cardinals being baseball sorcerers, too.

This mentality among some has almost made me stay away from the game threads this year. It's like the Cubs finally have a relevant and fun team to follow and there are still people who don't know how to act. It just gets tiresome.

if you were around in 2008, you will know that this will never get better no matter how dominant this team ultimately gets

Boston fans still lament their lot in life and Yankees fans are apoplectic that they went two whole seasons in a row without making the playoffs. That's how sports fandom works universally. The losses are far more painful than the wins are enjoyable.

that's true for me of football. wins are a relief and losses are miserable because it takes so long to wash the taste away. they ruin at least the beginning of my week.

with baseball, with the amount of games, it takes a really really bad loss or long streak of losing to get to me, whereas days with wins are always happy days.

Probably my favorite running meatball meme in the game thread are people bemoaning losses as being "horrible" or "disastrous" or "crippling" or any other multitude of ridiculous hyperbole, like the loss is SO bad it's going to crush the spirit of the team and send them into a spiral of defeat.

There's probably been at least a dozen of these types of losses according to the game threads. It's a miracle everyone on the team hasn't killed themselves.

Blame Bill Simmons for trying to define the types of devastating losses.

I don't hate trade rumors, I just hate Twitter

I understand crazy popular celebrities not liking twitter, cuz the pure vitriol they receive on a daily basis can't be fun. But for us "normies" it's a great way to interact with media types and get instant information. Yes, you have to go in with a skeptical mindset, but I genuinely don't understand the hate.

I don't want to interact with media types and I don't need instant information. I don't need a constant flow of tweets during a game. It's just not for me

This is so weird. You sound like the 49ers coach. If you aren't interested in it fine, don't use it. But how can you hate it if you do not use it?

I have no interest in using facebook but I do not give a [expletive] about it.

Brandon has different uses for it than I do, since I really don't have any interest in interacting with media types. But I do find it the best way to get updated news information and be entertained by some comedians and other personalities.

Maybe he thinks it does more harm than good? Not too crazy of a thought.

I have no interest or use for Barbie dolls but I can still hate them for how they make teenage girls feel about themselves.

It's like saying the internet is bad because there's bad people that use it too.

thinking it does harm is rather ridiculous.
