Doesn't sound like this is anything but smoke at this point. And if it did happen soon, I'm thinking that either Russell or Rosscup would be first too go, now that Wood's in the pen, and Motte would also be gone before Jackson, unless they managed to trade him.

Yeah probably more Boras propaganda but the Ricketts did say that the cubs have money to spend midseason if they want.

I guess its up to if Theo/Jed want to go for him or not.

Either way I dont think he is a "closer" anymore, but might be a good 7th inning guy

About damn time they show interest in Soriano. Invent a time machine and sign him a month ago.

They already blew 5M on Motte, I'd prefer they not do the same on Soriano who was absolutely terrible the last half of 2015.

Speaking of time machines...

No, those are cool. Soriano is ho hum. If they can get him at a bargain, by all means go for it, but if he's gonna insist on getting paid like a closer like it's been rumored for the last several months it'll be a waste of money, because I really don't think he's all that good anymore. He'll probably be a league average reliever at best, IMO. If he's getting paid like $3-$4 million or something to do that, okay. But if he's asking for $8-$10 mil, gross.

Why did I think we picked up Motte as a no-risk flier? At 32, $5MM was kind of silly.

But Ryan Sweeney at 30...yeah, that would have been juuuuust right.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Blue Jays, Cardinals and Cubs have been the "most aggressive" pursuers of Rafael Soriano.

Soriano is set to have an open throwing session for teams on June 11 in the Dominican Republic, but Cafardo says it's possible he'll sign on with someone before then. The veteran reliever might have the best shot to close with the Jays out of the three, although Brett Cecil has pitched well of late after a slow start. Soriano would figure to be eased into high-leverage situations initially regardless of where he ends up given that he hasn't pitched in a game since the NLDS last year.

Who bites the dust if we sign Soriano? Leverage-wise, Jaxon or Wood would be the logical choices but since we haven't eaten their money yet I'm guessing we don't want to.

A minor league deal is an excellent sign.

i'm already picturing him jose verasing a bunch of games

on the one hand, i'm happy it's a minor league deal. on the other, it's kind of alarming that he had to settle for one.
