Once again, for the umpteenth time, can we stop pretending Baez doesn't walk at all?

Now Almora, that's different.

McKinney is your Carolina League Player of the Week. He leads the league in pretty much every offensive category and is, I believe, still the youngest offensive starter there.

Carolina League OPS leaders

.976 (McKinney)

.919

.884

.870 (Rogers)

.851 (Zagunis)

.833 x2

.819

There are 6 players within 150 points of OPS of McKinney and 2 of those are his teammates. No one is within 55 points of him.

He's the youngest player in the league and leads in OPS by a wide margin, and people expect him to be a solid major leaguer? Might want to be careful with those expectations, guys.

Random fact; Jacob Rogers is older than 4 of our regular big league starters and 15 days younger than Anthony Rizzo.

Can we take a flyer on him?

bumping this to point out that Baez's 2.2 K/BB for May so far is best/lowest monthly rate of his entire playing career, if it holds up; it's worth getting excited about more that he might finally be developing some small command of the strike zone rather than the walks alone

also, he's at 73% contact for the month, and he hasn't ever topped 69% before (discounting A+ and lower where swing data isn't available)

and pretend he wasn't robbed of that one HR to make the slg slightly less worrisome.

Doesn't that also take away a strikeout?
