just release edwin jackson and phil coke, then make the last two spots in the bullpen a revolving door of waiver claims and whoever is pitching well this week. can't be any worse, can it?

Wada should fix the Coke problem(either himself or by pushing Wood there), and Jackson is fine as an end of the bullpen innings eater.

yeah, not sure why people are talking about jackson. i feel like he's barely pitched and almost always when things are off the rails

Jackson came in today with a 2 run lead and walked 2 hitters on 9 pitchers and gave up an RBI double before being pulled. He sucks in any spot and should not be on an ML roster for a team trying to win now.

I guarantee you if the Cubs cut Edwin Jackson, he doesn't touch a Major League roster the rest of the year.

Entering today's game, Jackson had a 1.83 ERA, 9/1 K/BB, and had not given up a home run. He clearly is not going to be challenging for high leverage innings, but you're being hyperbolic and silly. Jackson's been gone from the game for a solid inning now, if you're still that worked up I think that's on your end.

The Cubs are trying to bring back 2001, one crappy pitcher at a time.

Time for some accountability. I expect changes very soon.

Is Rivero an option? His last six innings: 7k and 1 hit

I'd for sure bring him up for Coke. Coke is worthless as a LOOGY when Rosscup is pitching so well.

You'd almost think all baseball teams lose lots of games or something and look bad when doing so.

That's not to say that Coke isn't awful and some of these relievers don't need to be swapped out.

Yeah I'm too lazy to look up his season #'s but it sure seems like Coke is a fail no matter what role, so dump him for Rivero for all I care.

I forgot Russell was on the roster, so Coke really should be going for a bench player(seriously, where is La Stella)

to steal tree's phrase, that appeared to be strike three in two ways instead of zero ways

Coke still has a 6.52 ERA, 3.57 FIP as of right now but he's not striking anyone out (8.38 K/9)

Wait, what?

Coke sucks, but how is that not striking anyone out? I'm so confused.

3 good starters and a terrible bullpen is going to require a lot of dongs to overcome.

The bullpen isn't terrible.

And the histrionics about our 4th and 5th starters after like 25-30 innings are also a bit much. They don't need to be that good. They are 4th and 5th starters.

It seems impossible that it's only the top of the 7th.

even though it went 40 feet foul, it's nice to see Bryant jump on a hanger, he and Soler have taken their share of those thus far

Fire Edwin Jackson into the sun. Phil Coke, too. I agree - just start signing retreads until someone sticks, because it really can't get any worse.

it's tough to compete for the playoffs with two bad starters. and using their innings pitched to dismiss their badness is bit unfair since they only throw like 4 innings every start.

Two bad starters and then a bad long relief/middle relief. Not making the playoffs with that. You're asking too much from your top 3 starters to go deeper into games.
