This article seems really stupid that Len is talking about

It's not terrible stupid. The basic point is that teams aren't throwing the Cubs a lot of strikes... mostly because the Cubs have swung at a lot of bad pitches in recent years... that's why the Cubs aren't hitting for power, there aren't enough pitches for them to drive.

The Cubs are being selective, which is good, but what the article fails to explicitly say... is that opposing pitchers are getting a LOT of close pitches that should be balls, that are called strikes... because the Cubs don't get any respect from the umps for said patience.

So in other words, the Cubs are screwed.

It's not. I linked to it early in the thread. It's a good read.

Well the Len is doing a bad job summarizing, he's making it seem like it's saying "they are being patient/taking walks, but also striking out a lot. They should do more of the former and less of the latter." When they kinda go hand in hand. Also I know it was a week or so ago but I thought we ranked pretty well at not swinging at a lot of balls outside the zone?

"being the dork who holds the bag of headphones for the umpires isn't an embarrassing enough job, should we slap mlb.tv logos all over his body?"

It's a long form article, kind of hard to summarize

Yep. If there are stats that say the Cubs aren't being patient enough, sure, but I'm pretty sure their approach has been fine, and it doesn't explain how worse teams are hitting for more power

their approach has been fine, but they have the worst contact percentage on pitches inside the zone, and worst contact percentage on pitches outside the zone, and their swinging strike percentage is highest in baseball. they swing and miss a lot - which isn't surprising - but the lack of power thus far is surprising.
