Quit being such an old man, Jersey.

disagreeing with calling him addy is not an old man thing.

I know somebody with a daughter named Addison and the mother is constantly calling her Addy and it is incredibly grating on the ears. Addison Russell is no Addy.

he just grasping at straws since "salad" didn't catch on.

tree called him addy first. Quit shaking your canes at me.

i say cassie and addy and krissy (that one is catching on more slowly but is still the best) because i think horrible nicknames are funny

And we have Mike Quade to thank for that. I think one of your other nickname abominations was Rizzy, but that one faded out quickly. "Rizzy had a coupla nice hits"

Spiegel and Goff just asked Hoyer about Russell...he didn't not say he'd be up soon. Basically said they're using him there because they're pretty thin at 2B right now. Also said that Castro is the SS for the foreseeable future and that Russell playing 2B is a move that is much easier to make in the minors.

I took him saying Russell is at 2b because of how thin they are there as a sign that he'll be up very soon. If he was going to be in Iowa for a few more months it wouldn't really matter if they had 2b issues in the majors or not. Of course I am guessing, but I think there's a really good chance he is a Cub this week. Alcantara clearly isn't earning any playing time from Maddon right now. I'm expecting Russell up, Alcantara to Iowa soon, then La Stella can replace Herrera when he returns.

Yeah. I wouldn't be shocked by him being in Cinci. Wouldn't be shocked by him coming up on the 4th in St. Louis, either.

Maybe he'll join Starlin and Jorge by debuting in that [expletive] hole though.

Yeah i was thinking 4th in STL also. Gives him a solid 2 weeks of games at 2b

Russell batting 9th will be fun

Castro and Soler debuted in front of paltry crowds. As of now, the Reds have nearly sold out the whole weekend series. Don't know if that factors into the decision, but the park won't be a ghost town.

11:35 AM CST in Pittsburgh might do the trick.

#Cubs Maddon on @Addison_Russell playing 2B at Iowa: "It's being more

proactive as far as prepping him for a need that may be open here"

What has Cather done to be dropped to 7th? But seriously folks, I think Soler, Rizzo, Bryant should bat 2-4 long term. A lot of Russell's value will be derived from his position, and I'd guess that now and for he long term those three guys will be better hitters than Russell.

Soler or Bryant should have plenty of OBP and base running ability to hit 2. Russell also hasn't been a walk machine, nor is he a real speedy guy. If Russell becomes the kind of hitter to bump those guys down that would be great, but I'd guess he starts out 7th or 9th.

I'm still not expecting him to be up until July. I think they'll try to avoid super-2 status with him so to not have both Bryant and Russell go to arb at the same time and both for 4 years (both are repped by Boras).

I have a really, really hard time seeing that.

Note to add that this is all my own conjecture based on my projections of the types of hitters they'll all be and likelihood of meeting my expectations. I recognize that Russell could be better than I expect or Soler/Bryant/Rizzo worse. Or Maddon could do something different than I expect. But if things shake out this season the way I expect, I'd like to keep the current four guys at the top.

Agreed, and it's nice to have a manager that seems to roll out my preferred lineup (catching choice aside) every night.

edit: sorry for derailing. Russell is awesome and coming soon.

Your probably right, i'd like Bryant to be in a slot where he can see more fastballs though. i mean Coghlan or Castro arent that scary as say a Rizzo after Bryant. but im sure at the end it wont matter. Russell last yeah its for sure an upgrade over the current situation.. However im slightly concern about Russell vs. RHP in Iowa.

C - 2 headed monster with a papier mache third head that gets smashed with ease at every opportunity

fixd

DID YOU KNOW: Ross leads Cubs catchers with a .370 wOBA, 2nd only to Bryant for players with 10+ PA.

entirely on the back of intentional walks and unintentional intentional walks, don't care at all

You'd rather have had him expand the zone and ground out/pop-up weakly?

I'd rather have someone who could do something in a situation other than "2 outs, runners on, and a pitcher who can't hit at all is up next"
