After treating Jason Marquis the way he was supposed to be, the Cubs run up against a pretty great pitcher they almost signed. Hopefully they can treat him like he's Jason Marquis, too.

These Padres look pretty tough to me, but I think it is well within the Cubs ability to take their third straight series.

PITCHING MATCHUPS:

Hammel vs. Shields

Hendricks vs. Ross

Cashner vs. Lester

HAPPY KRIS BRYANT DAY, YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I demand Bryant Day end up being Saturday or Sunday since I can actually watch those games.

Don't be a dick Theo, it's time.

Would definitely be a dick if he waited till Monday and made fans wait an entire week to see him at Wrigley.

I bought tix to Saturday's game, so he better [expletive] be there.

These would be some tough matchups for Bryant to debut against, but I feel like he'll be in the lineup tomorrow since Olt still can't start apparently. They can tell Bryant tonight and officially make the roster move tomorrow to get the extra year, correct? Because it could be tricky to tell him tomorrow morning and still be in the lineup for a 1:20 game.

oh would you look at that, Olt's wrist still isn't right and Neil Ramirez also needs a DL stint so we need a couple players from Iowa to fill out the roster

i guess the 3B with the 1000 OPS will do

Yes, they can tell him tonight then make the roster move tomorrow.

In potentially good news, Russell is playing 2b tonight.

Edit -- they are playing the first half of a DH now so I guess we don't know if Bryant is playing the second game. He could still get on a plane after the first game right? Yeah I know...

with the early start, i doubt that bryant will be in the starting lineup. maybe available to pinch hit later?

They can't get him up to Chicago tonight to play tomorrow?

well, he was just playing baseball in new orleans as of 8pm central, so i assume the absolute earliest flight he could've caught was 10pm, and i doubt that there are flights from new orleans to chicago at that hour. my not-so-exhaustive research suggests that the earliest he could arrive in chicago (flying commercial obviously) is 12:40pm, leaving new orleans at 10:08am.

They can charter a plane if they really want him to play tomorrow

chartering a plane so that one baseball player can get an extra two or three at bats in one major league game seems rather wasteful.
