I will keep this separate from the Castro/Castillo thread because this is a brave new era free of mega threads and he's likely to be involved in plenty of rumors and who gives a crap about Beef.

That said, WHY DON'T WE SPECULATE, FOLKS:

Bob Nightengale @BNightengale

The #Padres and aggressive A.J Preller still aren't done dealing. They are now scouring the shortstop market, teams say.

Bob Nightengale @BNightengale

The #Cubs love Addison Russell and believe he's ready so if #Padres inquire on Starlin Castro, he likely would be available.

Not sure the Padres have enough left in the prospect tank to swing that one.

I don't even know who the Padres have in their system any more besides Hedges.

Hunter Renfroe.

EDIT: Rymer Liriano, who I actually had to double check was still there.

The Cubs are trying to win games. The idea that they'd trade one of their actual proven everyday players at this point for anything but a completely overwhelming return is pretty absurd.

Or, you know, other "actual proven everyday players"

Oh a thread about trading my favorite player, let's take a look and make sure it's a jok--

this is more of a personal opinion thing but prob should take a look at the selection for a new favorite player because there's way cooler more fun options

take a gander over at RF, for instance

That have extremely favorable contracts similar to his.

It's just too difficult to see them getting a return that matches his actual value. He's undervalued and his contract furthers that even moreso.

I just have loved Starlin since his call-up and have spent a lot of time defending him from unjust criticism. I understand how sunk cost works but I can't let go. And it's not like his chopped liver.

Soler is my second favorite.

I really don't want to trade Starlin anyway, but the Padres are a bad match. Ross was my first thought, but he's not under enough team control compared to Castro; plus, the amount of sliders he throws worries me. Cashner gets hurt too much. Hedges can't hit, and Renfroe's numbers are being propped up by the California League.

How much money did LA pick up in the Kemp trade?

We need a Nightengale meme image. This isn't even him parroting an agent, it's just playing the world's worst game of connect the dots.

valid question: what's the worst pitcher you'd accept in a heads-up swap for Castro?

Kevin Gausman? Danny Salazar? Drew Smyly?

Giolito?

Matt Harvey or Cole Hamels

Something like this is the correct answer, and they have to have a contract situation comparably favorable to Castro's. There's no reason to trade the guy, so any offering team needs to give them one.

My favorite thing about yesterday was Hamels getting blown up. Ideally he's sporting a 4+ ERA by June and he's eliminated as an answer to this question.

I"m really not sure how Drew Smyly even got put in there with two guys who have TOR potential. If Castro gets moved for Drew Smyly type talent then I'm done with this team.
