I wouldn't point to Gioskar Amaya as an example of that turnaround.

I don't know- if he can catch well he's hit enough in his MiLB career to be a nice piece there.

Funny, I don't recall actually doing that.

Catching is much better than last year but not really because of Amaya. Caratini, Schwarber, and Zagunis(if they want him to continue catching) would be the primary reasons.

didn't they already say zagunis won't be catching?

Yea I totally wasn't clear on that situation. I also recall reading that they wanted prospects to work on having second positions so I have no idea if he's going to switch between C and CF now.

He's listed as an outfielder on the roster, but I haven't seen any quotes from the front office about their exact plans. Even as someone who can be a passable 3rd catcher or play there 15-20 games a year it's a nice boost to the depth, especially since he doesn't appear to be getting moved for defensive reasons.

So he's what the 3rd or 4th best offensive catcher in the system now? This isn't like Carhart- he's still young enough to be considered a legitimate prospect at catcher if he can pick it up defensively.

Is it safe to say that Trey McNutt (remember, the guy we chose over Archer in the Garza trade) is nowhere to be found. Is it safe to say we've seen the end of him?

Also absent is Dillon Maples.

McNutt is hurt, he had shoulder surgery.

It's been almost 2 years since he last pitched.

@SBCubs: .@charcerburks rips an RBI single to CF, and Jeffrey Baez follows with a 2-run single to LF. @SBCubs now lead 4-1 in the fifth!

I'm starting to get my eyes crossed when it comes to some of our lesser pitching prospects, but am I correct in thinking that Ryan McNeil, Josh Conway, and Tyler Skulina were all biggish deals when drafted?

Yeah - all three were top 5 round draft picks.

Don't even remember Conway. Did he have a bad leg injury last year or something?

Wait, is this right? I thought it was Freidman who had the choice between the two, and he chose ... wisely?

That was my recollection as well - they had a choice of Archer/McNutt and a choice between Chirinos/Castillo (to go along with Lee/Fuld). I'm not certain any reporter ever said that as a fact, but at the very least, I'm pretty sure that's what the rumors indicated.
